PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bobby Hoffman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stu Rudder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hoffman comes to the cage accompanied by Crazy Train. Stu Rudder struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 157.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Bobby Hoffman has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bobby Hoffman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stu Rudder!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoffman will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hoffman throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Rudder fails with a takedown attempt.
Rudder pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Hoffman drives through and clinches with Rudder against the cage.
Hoffman tries to break the clinch but Rudder is controlling the position.
Hoffman tries to pull guard but Rudder won't allow it.
Hoffman tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rudder smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bobby Hoffman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A bone on bone clash there as Rudder blocks the leg kick.

Rudder shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Rudder was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hoffman is in all sorts of trouble here.
Hoffman is working hard here to advance position.

Rudder controlling his opponent.
Rudder looking to control but Hoffman is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Rudder really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hoffman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hoffman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Hoffman keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Hoffman tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Hoffman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hoffman tries to hold on but Rudder pushes him away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hoffman is desperately trying to improve his position but Rudder has a good base and remains in mount.
Rudder landing punches.
Hoffman working to try and regain half guard.
Rudder cracks Hoffman with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Rudder is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Hoffman can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Hoffman's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Rudder is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hoffman can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Hoffman is trying to escape the mount.
Rudder sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Hoffman is in all sorts of trouble here.
Rudder content just to control the position here.
Let's hope that Rudder has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rudder prevents Hoffman from getting the reversal.

Hoffman bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Hoffman trying to control the position from guard on top but Rudder is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rudder is pulling down on Hoffman's head. It's preventing any offense from Hoffman, at least for the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Hoffman is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stu Rudder dominated that round.
That's time! Hoffman's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Rudder scores with a jab.
Hoffman rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Rudder moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
No luck for Rudder with that takedown attempt.

and Rudder counters with a single leg into guard. Hoffman didn't expect that.

Hoffman looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Rudder avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Rudder stays in close to Hoffman's body and controls the position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hoffman is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Hoffman is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Rudder has his hands clasped together but Hoffman extends an breaks Rudder's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Hoffman.
