Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Graig Mullen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nick Gardner !
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mullen clinches with his opponent.
Mullen tries to pull guard but Gardner holds him up against the cage and eventually Mullen drops back down to his feet.
Gardner is looking for a takedown.
Gardner fails to pull guard.

Gardner tightens his grip and picks Mullen up, before dumping him to the ground. Mullen manages to land in guard.
Mullen keeping full guard, as Gardner tries to pass.
Mullen controlling Gardner 's posture.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mullen will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mullen looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Gardner wants to get up but he can't break Mullen's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gardner trying to stand up but can't free himself from Mullen's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Gardner works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Mullen really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Gardner is trying to control. Mullen wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Mullen is concentrating on defense, preventing Gardner from advancing position.
Mullen regains full guard. Nicely done.
Gardner works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Mullen wants to get back to full guard.
Mullen wants to control but Gardner is keeping busy.
Gardner is taking a breather. Mullen says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Gardner has Mullen up against the cage in a clinch.
Gardner stops a takedown attempt from Mullen.
Gardner keeps control of Mullen as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Gardner gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Mullen.

Gardner lands a big shot there that rocks Mullen but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Gardner wants to control the pace but Mullen is squirming around nicely.

Gardner is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Mullen has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Mullen!

Gardner is trying to hold Mullen in close to prevent damage but Mullen has managed to pass into half guard.
Mullen tries to stand and escape but Gardner is controlling the position.
Gardner regains full guard. Nicely done.
Mullen stands up over Gardner , holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mullen forces his way into half guard.
Mullen slows the pace down in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick Gardner dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mullen displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gardner .

Gardner closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mullen did well to prevent Gardner getting side control.
Mullen works his way to full guard. Good work.
Mullen is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Gardner must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Gardner wants to control from the top but Mullen keeps moving.

Gardner seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Gardner trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Mullen manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Gardner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gardner is pulling down on Mullen's head to control his posture.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mullen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Mullen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mullen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Gardner is trying to hold Mullen in close to prevent damage but Mullen has managed to pass into half guard.

Mullen is working for a submission of some sort.
Mullen blocks the strikes from Gardner .

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mullen working over Gardner with some ground and pound. Gardner looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Mullen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Mullen is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Gardner is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mullen pulls his head out easily.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Mullen moves into the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Gardner creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.


Mullen is rocked!
Mullen is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Gardner pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Oh Mullen is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gardner lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.


It looks like Graig Mullen has been cut.

Gardner breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Gardner shoots in for a takedown. Oh, that's a huge slam! Mullen is on queer street and Gardner is pounding down on him with a barage of strikes. The ref is forced to step in and stop the fight. Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Slam). Nick Gardner !
