PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Winford Cameron (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jijo Hiroka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Winford Cameron!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jijo Hiroka!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Marco Blurström and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hiroka throws a hook but Cameron avoids it easily.

Hiroka shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hiroka showed some decent athleticism there.
Cameron wants to stand back up but Hiroka manages to pass into side control.
Hiroka misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Cameron prevents Hiroka from moving into mount.

Hiroka has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cameron is defended easily by Hiroka.
Hiroka lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Cameron fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Hiroka tries to throw a body punch but Cameron avoids it by throwing Hiroka back against the cage.

Cameron successfully pulls guard.
Cameron wants to sweep but no luck.
Hiroka looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Let's hope that Hiroka has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Hiroka wants to get up but he can't break Cameron's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Cameron keeping full guard, as Hiroka tries to pass.
Hiroka slips nicely into half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hiroka clinches up with Cameron and pushes him back against the cage.
Cameron jumps guard but Hiroka stands there with Cameron around his waist. Cameron gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Winford Cameron. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hiroka throws a head punch that misses.
Cameron has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Hiroka after a bit of a struggle.

Hiroka looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Cameron won't allow Hiroka to sweep him here.

Hiroka looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cameron is one step ahead there.
Hiroka is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Hiroka closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cameron can't do much from the bottom here.
Cameron is looking to regain half guard here but Hiroka keeps moving and retains side control.
Cameron really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Hiroka is trying to move to mount but Cameron reverses beautifully and ends up in Hiroka's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hiroka wants to stand and escape but Cameron is having none of it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Cameron is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Cameron knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hiroka on the ground.

Cameron looking for a sweep. Not yet Cameron, not yet.
Hiroka wants to stand but Cameron has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Hiroka has gone for a leg lock! Cameron slips out almost immediately though and dives into Hiroka's guard.

Hiroka wants to stand but Cameron is controlling the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cameron shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hiroka but Hiroka pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hiroka looks like he wants to counter punch here.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hiroka misses with the head strike.
Hiroka dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Hiroka tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Cameron avoids it.

Cameron pulls Hiroka into guard.
Cameron can't keep his opponent in guard - Hiroka advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Cameron is not content to let Hiroka control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Cameron wants to control but Hiroka is keeping busy and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jijo Hiroka will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Cameron moves out of range as Hiroka throws a body kick.
Cameron is looking for a counter combo.
Hiroka throws a head kick that misses.
It looked like Cameron was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Hiroka gets a clinch.

Hiroka has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Cameron is trying to keep an underhook but Hiroka manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Hiroka looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Hiroka passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Cameron!
Cameron really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Hiroka has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hiroka looking to control but Cameron is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Poor strikes thrown by Hiroka there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Hiroka working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Hiroka won't let Cameron get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Hiroka misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Cameron wants to hold on but Hiroka pushes him away.

Cameron sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Cameron is staying active underneath Hiroka, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The fighters are battling for position here. Cameron manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Cameron is trying to keep Hiroka in close.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hiroka seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Hiroka lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
It looks like Hiroka is going to stand back up.

Cameron slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Hiroka is nestled in close to Cameron, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Hiroka content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Still in half guard, Hiroka seems content to control.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hiroka seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Hiroka thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Jijo Hiroka has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hiroka is keen to just control but Cameron is a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hiroka gets caught flat footed, as Cameron shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Hiroka not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Cameron wanted to stand there but Hiroka had control of the position.
Hiroka striking off his back, scoring a few points.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hiroka pulls Cameron in close to his closed guard and prevents Cameron from doing any damage or advancing position.

Jijo Hiroka comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hiroka has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
