PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Clair Delacruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Makambu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Clair Delacruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, James Makambu!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Phil Schofield and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Makambu throws a combination. Delacruz tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Makambu with a poor takedown

and Delacruz counters by clinching up.

Delacruz manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Delacruz keeping moving, preventing Makambu from controlling successfully.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Delacruz manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Makambu has had enough of the clinch but Delacruz keeps him there for the moment.

Delacruz breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Delacruz displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Makambu.
Delacruz avoids the head kick by Makambu.
Delacruz really is a fat lump.

and Delacruz moves into the clinch.
Clair Delacruz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Makambu.

Delacruz has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Makambu uses from the top position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Delacruz wants to sweep here but Makambu controlling him for the moment.
Delacruz bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Makambu's guard.

Delacruz drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Delacruz jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Delacruz is in close to Makambu's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Delacruz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Delacruz makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Delacruz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Makambu, up you get!
Delacruz tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Makambu clinches up with Delacruz and pushes him back against the cage.
Makambu avoiding damage as Delacruz throws knees to the body.

Delacruz manages to pull guard.

Delacruz has his feet on Makambu's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Makambu fails with the takedown

and Delacruz counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Makambu wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Delacruz manages to pass to side control.
Makambu looks winded!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Delacruz looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Delacruz lands strikes from half guard.
Delacruz landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Delacruz is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Still in half guard, Delacruz seems content to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Makambu is looking to control Delacruz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Makambu avoid being mounted?
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Delacruz lands a nice short elbow.
Nice strikes from Delacruz there.
Delacruz seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Makambu is defending against the submission attempts here by Delacruz.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Makambu has hold of Delacruz's hands but Delacruz slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Delacruz is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Delacruz maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Makambu could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Delacruz has cracked it and Makambu is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Delacruz!
