PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jason Roc (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brock Lesner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Roc comes to the cage accompanied by ATB - Believe In Me. Roc has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Jason Roc has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jason Roc!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Brock Lesner!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Sergei Dronov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lesner moves into the clinch successfully.

Roc is fighting off a takedown attempt but Lesner is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Roc to the mat. Roc regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Roc is breathing heavily.
Lesner prevents Roc from getting back to his feet.
Lesner pushes down on Roc's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Lesner wants to stand up but Roc has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Roc avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Lesner.

Roc makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lesner.

Lesner shoots in and bounces Roc off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Lesner working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Roc's head.

Lesner must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lesner accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Roc has his hands on Lesner's head, controlling the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A bone on bone clash there as Lesner blocks the leg kick.

Lesner throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Roc's waist but Roc gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lesner off to one side.

Lesner fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Roc sprawls well initially but Lesner persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Roc regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Lesner.

Lesner drops back, looking for a kneebar! Roc looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Roc looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Roc!

Roc tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Roc has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Lesner throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
Lesner is looking for a sweep.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brock Lesner dominated that round.
That's time! Roc's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Roc dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Lesner shoots in but no luck this time.
Lesner looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Roc is fending him off so far but Lesner persists. Nope, Roc circles away and we're back to standing.
Roc tries to clinch up but Lesner circles away and keeps his distance.

Roc darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Lesner tries to get to full guard but Roc has control of the leg.
Roc is thwarting Lesner's attempts to control the position.
Roc wants to stand but Lesner has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The fighters are battling for position here. Lesner manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Roc chips away with some ground and pound.
Lesner trying to keep a closed guard but Roc is proving a slippery customer.
Lesner working a defensive guard but Roc manages to pass into side control anyway.
Roc lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Lesner down.
Lesner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Roc. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Roc is staying tight to Lesner's torso, preventing him from escaping.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Lesner manages to get back to half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lesner can do anything to dispel that myth.
Roc wants to take a breather but Lesner is having none of it.
Roc sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Lesner defending well though.
Lesner flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Roc stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Roc tries to lock up and control but Lesner gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Roc is looking to improve his position but Lesner isn't that keen on the idea.

Roc is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Lesner scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Lesner pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Lesner is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Roc can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Roc is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Roc is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Lesner is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Roc is trying to escape the mount.
Lesner lands with some strikes.
Roc squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Lesner lands a big shot there that rocks Roc but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Roc sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Lesner lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jason Roc will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Roc takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Lesner is working Roc over with some ground and pound from side control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Jason Roc is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Roc scores with the left hand. Lesner knows he should have avoided that one.

Roc decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Lesner feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Lesner would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Roc wants to sweep here but Lesner controlling him for the moment.

Lesner changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Roc tries to avoid it but Lesner manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Roc to the ground. Roc escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Roc tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Lesner paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Lesner fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Roc's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Roc duly obliges.
Lesner has a takedown stuffed.
Lesner avoids the head kick by Roc.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brock Lesner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Lesner has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
