Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Michael Vardy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sam Kensington (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sam Kensington is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Vardy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sam Kensington!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, David Schapiro and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kensington lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.


It looks like Michael Vardy has been cut.
Kensington throws a jab when Vardy was well out of range.
Vardy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kensington swivels and escapes.
A swing and a miss from Kensington.
Nice sprawl there from Kensington as Vardy shoots in.
Kensington pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Kensington throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Vardy changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Vardy avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Vardy shoots in for a double leg but Kensington sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michael Vardy. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kensington cracks Vardy with a big right hand and Vardy goes down!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Vardy controls Kensington momentarily but Kensington frees himself.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vardy has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Kensington drops back looking for a leg! Vardy is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Vardy manages to kick Kensington off! Kensington jumps back into Vardy's guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Vardy is on top in guard.

Vardy is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Vardy drops back looking for a leg! Kensington is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kensington manages to kick Vardy off! Vardy jumps back into Kensington's guard.

Vardy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kensington can do anything to dispel that myth.
Vardy tries to free his leg and advance position but Kensington is retaining full guard.

Vardy drops back looking for a leg! Kensington is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Kensington manages to kick Vardy off! Vardy jumps back into Kensington's guard.
Kensington really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Vardy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Vardy drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Vardy jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Vardy is breathing heavily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Kensington has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Vardy can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Kensington escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vardy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Vardy pushes down on Kensington's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Vardy wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kensington keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Vardy is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Vardy is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kensington has managed to free his arm - good work.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vardy uses his free foot to push down on Kensington's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kensington.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Kensington dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Michael Vardy's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Vardy ducks under a wild hook from Kensington.
Sam Kensington seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Kensington fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kensington listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Kensington is pawing at Vardy, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Vardy's nose. Vardy is badly hurt! Kensington pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Vardy tries desperately to hold on but Kensington is relentless in his assault! As Vardy receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Kensington away and this one is in the books!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sam Kensington!
