Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Raul Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pierre Gautier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pierre Gautier told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Gautier looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Gautier stuffs the takedown attempt from Mendez. Mendez gets slowly back to his feet.
Mendez shoots in but Gautier avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Raul Mendez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

I was talking to Mendez's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Gautier lands a left hand that snaps the head of Mendez backwards.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gautier lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Mendez backwards.

Mendez wants to take the fight to the mat but Gautier manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Gautier dips a shoulder and cracks Mendez with a mighty uppercut! Mendez falls back against the cage and Gautier unloads with a barrage of strikes! Mendez is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the cage! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Gautier screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!
