PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gavin Buckley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Roshambo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gavin Buckley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jeff Roshambo!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Sosuke Kotani and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buckley looks to clinch
and Roshambo counters with a leg kick.
Buckley tries to clinch up but Roshambo circles away and keeps his distance.
Jeff Roshambo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Roshambo fails to land the takedown.
Buckley fails in his attempt to clinch.

Roshambo drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Buckley is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Buckley lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buckley is trying to control the action in half guard but Roshambo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roshambo can do anything to dispel that myth.

Buckley is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Roshambo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Buckley.
Buckley winds up and cracks Roshambo with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Buckley has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Buckley accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Buckley drops back, looking for a kneebar! Roshambo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Roshambo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Roshambo!

Roshambo cracks Buckley with a big right hand but Buckley just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Buckley wants to get back to his feet but Roshambo is dominant here and he's now got Buckley's back!
Roshambo controlling well, preventing Buckley from escaping the position.

Roshambo has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Buckley trying to control but not successfully.
Roshambo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Buckley. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Roshambo lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Roshambo slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
It looks like Roshambo might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Buckley is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Roshambo is just riding it out for now. Buckley eventually gives up the hold.

Roshambo is trying to maintain the position but Buckley is very close to passing his half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Roshambo wants to get back to full guard.

Roshambo is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Buckley's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Buckley's back!

Buckley postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Roshambo is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Buckley, into his guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Buckley is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Roshambo is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Roshambo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Buckley has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Roshambo uses from the top position.

Roshambo is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Buckley can't fight it off and eventually Roshambo manages to take the fight to the floor. Buckley looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Buckley bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Roshambo's guard.

Roshambo manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Buckley tries to close the distance and clinch but Roshambo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Roshambo shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Buckley as he jumps to the side.

Roshambo closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Roshambo lands in his opponent's guard.

Jeff Roshambo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Roshambo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Jeff Roshambo rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
