PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Conor McGregor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brij Khali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGregor comes into the arena with Foggy Dew blaring out of the sound system. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 37 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Conor McGregor !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 35 - 59 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Brij Khali!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Alyssa Summers and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
McGregor stuffs the takedown attempt from Khali. Khali gets slowly back to his feet.
McGregor uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Khali has time to react.

and McGregor counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khali shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
enabling McGregor to counter with a crisp jab.
Conor McGregor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brij Khali.

McGregor throws a hook to the side of Khali's head but Khali sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Khali steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
McGregor looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Khali takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Khali shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. McGregor defends it nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
McGregor connects with a solid leg kick.
McGregor stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Khali tries for a takedown but McGregor sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Khali uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from McGregor .

That's three minutes gone in the round.
McGregor lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
McGregor scores with a one two! Khali had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
McGregor swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Nice jab there from McGregor .
Khali shoots in for a takedown but McGregor shows good takedown defense.
McGregor misses with a straight left.
Khali is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McGregor attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Khali fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
McGregor works the jab nicely.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Khali shoots in and gets a takedown into McGregor 's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


McGregor throws a head kick that misses.
Khali feints the counter takedown.
Khali changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McGregor tries to avoid it but Khali manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McGregor to the ground. McGregor escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and McGregor counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Khali throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McGregor 's waist but McGregor gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Khali off to one side.

Khali is looking for the big counter here.

It looked like McGregor wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
McGregor stuffs the takedown attempt from Khali. Khali gets slowly back to his feet.

McGregor scores with a jab to the body.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting McGregor here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
McGregor looks to land a combination but Khali avoids it well.
Khali takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

McGregor lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
McGregor tests Khali's chin there with a solid looking shot.


Khali is rocked!

McGregor pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
McGregor is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Khali can do to turn this around?
McGregor connects with a nice looking jab.
Khali is still on wobbly legs! Can McGregor finish him?
McGregor sees an opening and throws a straight punch right through Khali's defenses. It connects perfectly with Khali's jaw and knocks him out cold! Wow - that's a contender for knockout of the year - absolutely brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:31 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Conor McGregor !
Conor McGregor seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
The defeated Brij Khali had this to say: 'Dissapointed to Lose'.
