The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Arlovski throws a jab when Mayflower was well out of range.

We've been told by Arlovski's head coaches at McElias (Russian Bears TM) that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Arlovski throws out a loose jab but Mayflower uses good head movement to avoid it.
Arlovski throws a hook but Mayflower avoids it easily.

and Arlovski counters with a big uppercut that knocks Mayflower off his feet! Arlovski dives into side control looking to finish!

Mayflower tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Arlovski wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Mayflower manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Arlovski wants to stand up but Mayflower has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Mayflower has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Arlovski seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mayflower tries to roll over but Arlovski keeps him under control.

Arlovski lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Mayflower at a distance.
Arlovski is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Mayflower takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Arlovski keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Larry Mayflower's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
Arlovski loads up on a big right hand but Mayflower slips the punch.
And Mayflower tries to counter it with a takedown but Arlovski pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Mayflower is trying hard to land a takedown here. Arlovski sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
