PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Pedro Moses (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Earl (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pedro Moses!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Earl!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Earl moves in looking to clinch but Moses pushes him off.
Earl looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Moses throws a leg kick which misses Earl's front leg but catches the back leg as Earl tries to avoid it.
Moses throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Moses lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Moses has taken the fight to the clinch.
Earl is pressed up against the cage. Moses has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Earl down to the mat. Earl avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Moses looks to land a combination. Earl sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Moses is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Earl's half guard.
Earl wants to stand back up but Moses manages to pass into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Moses looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Moses thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Earl tries to bench press Moses off him but Moses keeps the position.
Moses taking a breather here.

Moses working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Moses throws an elbow but Earl slips to the side and avoids it well.

Moses tries for a kimura but Earl is defending well.
Moses controlling from side mount.
Moses lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Earl down.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Earl tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Moses wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Moses controls the position.
Moses lands a decent elbow from side control.
Moses trying to control the action but Earl is working from the bottom.
Earl tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
You can see the frustration on Earl's face as Moses controls the position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Earl has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Nice straight punches there by Moses. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Moses.
The fighters circle momentarily. Moses darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
A right-left combo lands from Moses.
Earl takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Earl keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Moses.

Moses clinches up with Earl and pushes him back against the cage.
Moses is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Earl to keep the fight standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pedro Moses dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Moses forces Earl back against the cage and clinches.
Earl is looking for a takedown.
Moses is looking for a takedown.
Earl tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Moses is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Earl can do to turn this around?

Moses pulls guard.
Moses tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Moses is working hard here to advance position.
Earl is breathing heavily.
Moses manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Earl manages to get himself to full guard.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Moses's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Moses postures up in Earl's guard and throws a big left but Earl blocks it.
Pedro Moses overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Earl looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Earl is striking but Moses is not phased and passes to half guard.

Earl is defending against the submission attempts here by Moses.

Moses is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Earl has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Moses is working away from the top position though.
Moses wants to take a breather but Earl is having none of it.

Earl is trying to stand.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Earl takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Moses lands a jab to the head.
Moses defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Earl.
Moses is looking to counter the offense by Earl and move into the clinch.
Pedro Moses has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Earl.

Moses has taken the fight to the clinch.
Moses goes for a takedown in the clinch but Earl prevents it.
Moses wants to take the fight to the mat but Earl manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Moses is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Earl pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Earl is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Moses gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Moses jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Earl walks away with a smile on his face. Moses gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Moses cracks Earl with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Moses lands with a hook. Earl tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Moses is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Moses fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Earl, pushing him back against the cage.

Earl has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Moses uses from the top position.
Earl looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Moses puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Earl is trying to get back to full guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Earl is trying to control but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Earl is not content to let Moses control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Moses shoots in looking for a takedown. Earl tries to sprawl out of it but Moses keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Earl manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Pedro Moses is winning the standup battle so far.
Moses will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Moses throws a one two combo.
Moses leaves Earl with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Moses tries to counter by clinching up but Earl breaks away and moves out of range.
Earl takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Moses slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Moses is trying to pull guard but Earl turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Moses goes for a takedown in the clinch but Earl prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pedro Moses. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Earl wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Moses tries to pull guard but Earl holds him up against the cage and eventually Moses drops back down to his feet.

Earl looking to sit in guard and control but Moses gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Moses controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Moses is working Earl over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Moses has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Moses not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Moses makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Earl is looking for a triangle but Moses pushes his legs off easily.

Earl is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Moses is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Moses lands with a nice combination. Earl backs away looking to recover.
Moses is looking to clinch but Earl is avoiding it.

Moses closes the distance and clinches.

Earl gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Moses.
Moses is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Earl misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Moses.
Moses is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Moses fails to pull the fight into his guard.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
James Earl has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Pedro Moses is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Moses ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Moses no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Well Moses has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
