Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nate Wright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Sweet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nate Wright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Sweet!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Jonathan Paton and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sweet blocks a head kick by Wright.
Sweet looks to land a combination but Wright avoids it well.

Sweet closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Wright is trying to control Sweet's posture but Sweet avoids it.
Wright is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Sweet's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Wright holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Sweet not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Wright flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Sweet wanted to stand there but Wright had control of the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sweet wants to control from the top but Wright keeps moving.

Wright escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sweet gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wright is trying to control the position but Sweet postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Wright gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Sweet counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Wright pulls guard successfully.
Sweet throws a strike but Wright rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Sweet controls Wright momentarily but Wright frees himself.
Sweet tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wright wants to control from the top but Sweet keeps moving.
Wright scoring with some ground and pound.

Wright postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Sweet is looking for a triangle but Wright pushes his legs off easily.
Wright throwing strikes but missing.
Wright throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Wright thows a big elbow that misses.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wright missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wright accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Sweet keeping moving, preventing Wright from controlling successfully.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Wright doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Sweet counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Wright had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Sweet is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Wright Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Sweet's back instead.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sweet trying to control the hands but Wright won't let him.

Wright is trying to stick to Sweet's back but Sweet is turning into Wright. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Wright's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Sweet.
Sweet wants to stand but Wright is controlling his posture from full guard.
Wright looking to control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wright is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Sweet is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Sweet trying to control but Wright is working from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wright misses with a takedown
and Sweet counters with a two punch combo.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nate Wright. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wright throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Wright avoids a punch combination nicely.
Sweet tries to clinch there but Wright circles away.
Sweet closes the distance and clinches up with Wright, looking for a takedown. Sweet pushes Wright against the cage but Wright circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Wright thows a leg kick but Sweet checks it
and Sweet counters with a big head kick but Wright shrugs it off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Sweet showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Wright darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Sweet is looking to escape.
Wright prevents Sweet from improving his position.
Wright stalling.
Sweet takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Sweet avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Wright.

Sweet throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Sweet is pressing down on Wright's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Wright throws and elbow that misses. Sweet uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Wright's guard. Nice move by Sweet!

Wright looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Sweet passes into side control.
Sweet advances to mount.
Jimmy Sweet is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Sweet avoids the attempt from Wright to control.
Sweet trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Wright tries to hold on but Sweet pushes him away.

Sweet is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
Wright wants to hold on but Sweet pushes him away.

Sweet with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Sweet tries to control but Wright wriggling away.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wright is trying desperately to improve position.
Sweet trying to control but Wright is having none of it.
Nate Wright has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sweet throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Wright because Sweet loaded up on that one.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sweet can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wright is looking to escape.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Nate Wright.
Well Sweet has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
