PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darrell Holder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Stanger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jimmy Stanger was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Darrell Holder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jimmy Stanger!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stanger darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Holder trying to control from the bottom.
Holder might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Stanger sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Holder defending well though.
Holder is looking to improve his position.
Stanger looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Holder wants to control but Stanger is keeping busy and won't allow it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Holder regains full guard. Nicely done.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Stanger shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Holder's guard.

Stanger fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Holder to the ground. Stanger is now in Holder's guard.
Holder could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Holder can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Stanger controls the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Holder tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Stanger slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Stanger wants to control from the top but Holder keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Holder is on top in guard.

Stanger lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Stanger is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Holder defends well.
Stanger throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Holder gets to his feet - Stanger follows without any prompting.
Holder fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Stanger lands a right hook to the body.

Stanger fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Holder to the ground. Stanger is now in Holder's guard.

Stanger has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Stanger postures up in Holder's guard and throws a big left but Holder blocks it.

Stanger is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Stanger drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Holder is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Stanger is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Stanger wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Holder, who protects the arm well.
Holder managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Stanger.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Stanger shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Stanger showed some decent athleticism there.
Holder tries to roll over but Stanger keeps him under control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Stanger is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Holder sees it coming and defends easily.

Stanger stands up out of the half guard.

Stanger shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Stanger is thwarting Holder's attempts to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Stanger showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Holder shoots in for a double leg but Stanger sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Stanger changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Holder throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Stanger's waist but Stanger gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Holder off to one side.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Holder darts in looking for a takedown but Stanger gets double underhooks and turns Holder into the cage.
Stanger throws a counter combo.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darrell Holder. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Stanger changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Holder looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Stanger just content to control the position.

Stanger closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Holder to the mat! Holder manages to get full guard.

Stanger gets to his feet. Holder looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Holder shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stanger but Stanger pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Well Stanger has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
