PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Edgardo Wilder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tim Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Edgardo Wilder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tim Martin!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wilder pinned against the cage. Wilder gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Wilder could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Martin darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Martin decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Martin misses with a takedown attempt - Wilder sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Wilder shoots in but no luck this time.

Wilder shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Martin napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Martin throws Wilder to one side and escapes!
Martin misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Edgardo Wilder has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Martin.

Martin takes the fight into the clinch.

Martin ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Martin no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Wilder wanted to stand there but Martin had control of the position.

Wilder trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Martin has his foot on Wilder's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wilder works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Martin is on top in guard.

Wilder is trying to control the position but Martin postures up.

Martin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Wilder wants to get back to his feet but Martin passes into half guard.

Martin is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Wilder might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Martin lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Wilder is trying to control but can't.
Wilder is looking to escape.

Martin stands up from half guard.

Martin lands a big head kick that sends Wilder tumbling to the mat! Martin takes a step backwards and waves Wilder back to his feet - he wants the finish!


It looks like Edgardo Wilder has been cut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Martin clinches with his opponent.

Martin jumps into guard, dragging Wilder to the mat.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Wilder throws a big elbow that misses.

Martin pushes Wilder off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Wilder slaps away a takedown attempt from Martin, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Martin, right into the meat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tim Martin dominated that round.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Martin has Wilder up against the cage in a clinch.
Wilder tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Martin smiles and moves away.

Martin drives through and clinches with Wilder against the cage.

Martin ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Martin no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Wilder throws a big right hand that misses.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Martin throws his legs up looking for a submission but Wilder uses it to pass to side control.
Wilder tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Wilder decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Martin looks to score with a jab to the body but Wilder is just out of range.
As Martin looks to move away, Wilder throws a big counter combo but Martin just gets out of the way.
Martin scores with a leg kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Martin fails with the takedown.

Martin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Martin keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Martin is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Wilder sees it coming and defends easily.
Wilder controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Martin wants to free his trapped foot but Wilder is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Martin decides to return to a standing position.
Martin fails with a takedown attempt.

Martin manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Wilder on his heels. He'll look to pass Wilder's guard now, I'm sure.
Martin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Martin is breathing heavily.
Wilder thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Wilder bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Martin's guard.

Martin doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Wilder has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Martin is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Wilder is fighting to break Martin's control of his arms but Martin is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Martin lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tim Martin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Martin lands a leg kick that knocks Wilder off balance momentarily.
Martin lands a brutal head kick. Wilder looks out on his feet and Martin throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:20 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Kick and Punches). Tim Martin!
