PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kieren Mccann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Adrian Riva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kieren Mccann!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Adrian Riva!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Riva tries to keep at a distance but Mccann has taken the fight into the clinch.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Mccann is trying to force a seperation but Riva has the dominant position.
Mccann drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Riva gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Riva is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Riva changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Mccann fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Riva attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Mccann throws a body kick that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Riva slips a jab and a cross from Mccann.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Riva is defended easily by Mccann.
Mccann appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Mccann will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kieren Mccann. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mccann tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Riva defends well and Mccann ends up having to push Riva into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Horrible takedown attempt by Riva or perhaps it was just good defense by Mccann, which made it look bad.
Riva throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Mccann on the side of the head.

Riva has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mccann uses from the top position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Mccann throws a head kick but Riva moves out of range.

and Riva counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mccann won't be happy with that.

Mccann explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

It looked like Mccann was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Riva leaves Mccann with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Riva throws a series of punches but Mccann avoids them all with ease.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Riva stuffs the takedown attempt from Mccann. Mccann gets slowly back to his feet.

Riva lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Mccann circles away quickly and effectively.
Mccann went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Riva misses with a straight right.
Riva shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Mccann counters with a three punch combo that has Riva backing up. Riva nods at Mccann to acknowledge the strikes.
Mccann scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Mccann gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Riva wants to break the clinch but can't.
Riva is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Mccann gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Mccann creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Mccann gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Riva.
Riva tries to pull guard but Mccann won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kieren Mccann dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Mccann fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Riva, pushing him back against the cage.

Riva escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mccann is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Riva can do to turn this around?

Mccann manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Riva wants to control from the top but Mccann keeps moving.

Mccann bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Riva's guard.


Mccann drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mccann jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Riva wants to sweep but no luck.

Mccann stays in close to Riva's body and controls the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Riva is looking for a triangle but Mccann pushes his legs off easily.

Mccann tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

You can see the frustration on Riva's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Riva has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.


It looks like Adrian Riva has been cut.

Mccann ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mccann no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Mccann has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Riva off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mccann, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
