PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jacob Clarke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Dos Anos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jacob Clarke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cain Dos Anos!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Sosuke Kotani and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Clarke looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dos Anos is fending him off so far but Clarke persists. Nope, Dos Anos circles away and we're back to standing.
Dos Anos scores with a nice head shot.
Clarke looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Dos Anos looks to throw a body kick
and Clarke counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Dos Anos gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Clarke tries to break free but Dos Anos pushes him back against the ropes.
Clarke looking for a takedown.
Dos Anos goes for a takedown in the clinch but Clarke prevents it.

Dos Anos has Clarke pressed up against the ropes. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Dos Anos pulls back from the ropes and twists to the side, sending Clarke tumbling to the mat - Dos Anos dives into Clarke's guard.
Clarke lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Clarke wants to control from the top but Dos Anos keeps moving.

Clarke postures up and lands a big shot to Dos Anos's brow.
Dos Anos keeping moving, preventing Clarke from controlling successfully.
Clarke landing some decent shots from guard.
Clarke in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Clarke stays in close to Dos Anos's body and controls the position.
Clarke stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dos Anos swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Clarke content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Dos Anos is looking to stand up but Clarke isn't so interested in that idea.

Clarke engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Clarke postures up.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Clarke trying to control the position from guard on top but Dos Anos is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Clarke pushing down on Dos Anos's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Dos Anos is not content to let Clarke control the position.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Dos Anos is trying to stand up here but Clarke is controlling him well.
Dos Anos tries to get to full guard but Clarke has control of the leg.
Clarke lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Clarke working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Dos Anos really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Clarke. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Clarke seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Dos Anos does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Dos Anos is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Clarke scores with a couple of nice shots.
Clarke lands strikes from half guard.
Clarke trying to control the action but Dos Anos is working from the bottom.
Dos Anos blocking the ground and pound attempt from Clarke.
Clarke wants to control but Dos Anos is keeping him busy.
Clarke prevents Dos Anos from standing back up.
Dos Anos is trying to control but can't.
Dos Anos keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Clarke lands strikes from half guard.
Clarke has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Clarke is nestled in close to Dos Anos, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Clarke wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dos Anos keeps working.

Clarke seems to be working for a kimura but Dos Anos defends the submission attempt.
Dos Anos tries to kick Clarke off but Clarke keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dos Anos can do anything to dispel that myth.
Dos Anos on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Clarke is nestled in close to Dos Anos, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Clarke trying to control the action but Dos Anos is working from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Clarke throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Clarke wants to free his trapped foot but Dos Anos is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Clarke connects with a nice short shot to Dos Anos's temple.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clarke throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Cain Dos Anos is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Clarke shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Dos Anos sprawls well. Dos Anos wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Clarke gets slowly back to his feet.

Dos Anos pushes Clarke up against the ropes in a clinch.
Clarke tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Dos Anos's elbow.
Dos Anos misses with a punch to the body.
Clarke throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A right handed body shot lands from Dos Anos.
Clarke stalling in the clinch but Dos Anos improves position.
Dos Anos has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Clarke after a bit of a struggle.
Clarke has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Dos Anos avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Clarke is trying to maintain a safe position but Dos Anos gets an underhook and turns Clarke into the ropes.
Clarke tries to work over Dos Anos's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dos Anos tries to throw a body punch but Clarke avoids it by throwing Dos Anos back against the ropes.
Dos Anos lands a body punch.

Dos Anos is working on a single leg takedown against the ropes. Clarke can't fight it off and eventually Dos Anos manages to take the fight to the floor. Clarke looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Dos Anos with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Dos Anos wants to control from the top but Clarke keeps moving.

Clarke looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Dos Anos is defending well. Clarke quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Dos Anos has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Clarke celebrates on the ropes, with the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jacob Clarke!
