Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joey Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juno Ruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ruiz has chosen Still D.R.E. ft. Snoop Dogg as his entrance music. Juno Ruiz is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Juno Ruiz!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Santiago Holmes and Peter Branson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ruiz rushes Black and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
I was talking to Black's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Ruiz breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Black throws a series of punches but Ruiz avoids them all with ease.
Ruiz throws a nice looking combination but Black bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Black misses with a double jab.

Black drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Black is standing up over Ruiz. Ruiz looks to escape but Black dives into side control.

Ruiz taking a bit of punishment here - Black scoring with strikes.
Ruiz tries to get back to half guard but can't.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ruiz is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Black staying calm.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ruiz wants to control but Black postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Black in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Ruiz tries to improve position but can't.
Black works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Black working the head and body with strikes.
Ruiz is looking to reverse the position.
Black looks up at the clock and then as Ruiz takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Black smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
A lull in the action here as Black stalls from top position.
Black lands an elbow.

Ruiz is rocked!

It looks like Juno Ruiz has been cut.
Black landing a few strikes.
Ruiz is still in real trouble! Can Black finish him?
Black has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ruiz is trying to escape the position but Black is controlling the position.
Black scoring with punches from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ruiz takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Black scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Ruiz is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Black can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
