The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dos Santos stuffs the takedown attempt from Ward. Ward gets slowly back to his feet.
Ward is trying hard to land a takedown here. Dos Santos sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

and Dos Santos counters with a head kick that drops Ward - he's looking to finish, following his stunned foe to the ground!

Dos Santos thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ward's head.

Ward shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Dos Santos sprawls well. Dos Santos wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ward gets slowly back to his feet.

Dos Santos throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Ward stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. Dos Santos follows into mount!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Ward in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Ward is still in real trouble! Can Dos Santos finish him?
Ward is wriggling around trying to escape.
Dos Santos is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Ward can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Ward tries to hold on but Dos Santos pushes him away.
Dos Santos has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Ward's face.
Dos Santos loads up with a big shot that hurts Ward! He's pulled Dos Santos in close but Dos Santos has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Ward survive? More strikes from Dos Santos and Ward is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!
