PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Darren Mayhew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Anderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlos Anderson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Carlos Anderson!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Daniel Franklin and David Hoff.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mayhew shoots in for a double leg but Anderson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Mayhew clinches.

Mayhew successfully pulls guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mayhew is trying to control the position but Anderson postures up.

Mayhew is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Anderson defends well.

We've been informed that Anderson has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Anderson shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mayhew defends it nicely.

Mayhew scores with a crisp jab that stopped Anderson in his tracks.
Mayhew catches Anderson with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Anderson is rocked!
Anderson tries to clinch but Mayhew is having none of it.
Anderson is still on wobbly legs! Can Mayhew finish him?

Mayhew forces Anderson back against the cage and clinches.
Anderson seems to have recovered his senses.
Anderson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Mayhew walks away with a smile on his face. Anderson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Mayhew rushes Anderson and presses him up against the cage.

Anderson wants to control from the top but Mayhew keeps moving.

Mayhew isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Anderson stacks Mayhew on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Anderson!
Mayhew tries to strike but it doesn't land.

Mayhew is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Mayhew is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Anderson has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Anderson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mayhew, who protects the arm well.

Mayhew bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Mayhew's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Mayhew stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mayhew wants it to stay on the feet.

Mayhew feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Anderson sprawling to the canvas! Anderson rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Mayhew finish him?!

Anderson has closed the distance and engaged Mayhew in a clinch.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Anderson jumps guard but Mayhew turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Still in the clinch, Mayhew scores with a nice short uppercut.
Anderson tries to score a body lock takedown but Mayhew shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Anderson wants to counter the offense by Mayhew and move into the clinch position.
Anderson throws a sloppy head kick and Mayhew moves out of range easily.

Mayhew closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Mayhew avoids the elbow strike from Anderson, against the cage.

Anderson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Mayhew is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Anderson can do to turn this around?
Anderson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Mayhew pinned against the cage. Mayhew gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Anderson throws a wild hook but Mayhew just manages to duck under it and - ooooh! Anderson gets nailed by a brutal uppercut which crumples him back against the cage! The referee jumps in - Mayhew raises his hands in celebration and walks away!
