The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rutledge throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Leniec tries to move into range but Rutledge moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Leniec throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Rutledge.

Rutledge tries to sprawl but Leniec drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rutledge pushes Leniec away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Leniec gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Leniec wants to control but Rutledge is keeping him busy.
Rutledge is looking to regain half guard here but Leniec keeps moving and retains side control.

Leniec looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Rutledge is looking to get back to his feet here but Leniec is keeping cool and he's managed to take Rutledge's back.

Leniec is persistently looking for the submission but Rutledge is defending it well.
Rutledge breaks Leniec's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Rutledge drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Leniec dives on top into guard.

Leniec sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rutledge's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rutledge is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Leniec pulls his head out easily.
Leniec lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
