The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Mendez. No joy for Nelson on that attempt.
Mendez scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Nelson doesn't seem bothered though.

Nelson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Mendez throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
A low kick from Nelson misses
and Mendez counters with a three punch combo that has Nelson backing up. Nelson nods at Mendez to acknowledge the strikes.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nelson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mendez scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Mendez throws a head kick but Nelson moves out of range.
Mendez pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

and Mendez counters with a takedown into side control.
Nelson is looking for a sweep.
Nelson is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Mendez asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Nelson is working to avoid the ground and pound but Mendez connects with a decent elbow.
