Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ilivasi Veitayaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frank Wells!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, John Mangel and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Veitayaki dives in and scores a takedown into Wells's guard.
Wells looking to control.
Wells is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Wells pulls Veitayaki in to control the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wells can do anything to dispel that myth.
Wells is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Veitayaki is controlling him.
Veitayaki makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Veitayaki lands a couple of elbows.
Wells keeping moving, preventing Veitayaki from controlling successfully.
Veitayaki distracts Wells with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Veitayaki trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Veitayaki decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Wells has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Veitayaki fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Wells tries to bum rush Veitayaki with a series of wild strikes but Veitayaki uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ilivasi Veitayaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

enabling Wells to counter with a crisp jab.

Veitayaki looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Wells!
Wells tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Wells really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Veitayaki. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Veitayaki scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Wells to see if he's OK.

Veitayaki working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Wells is looking to reverse the position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Wells is still trying to improve position.

Wells tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Veitayaki presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Veitayaki looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Wells wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Wells is squirming around, avoiding Veitayaki's attempts to control the action.
Veitayaki landing strikes from the mount and Wells is in trouble!
Veitayaki has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Wells is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Veitayaki locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Wells is forced to tap!
