The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
O Brien lands a nice leg kick that just misses Mccarthy's sensitive parts.
O Brien lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Virgil Mccarthy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mccarthy seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Mccarthy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

O Brien bucks up and tries to throw Mccarthy off but instead Mccarthy has got his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

O Brien is trying to get back to his feet but Mccarthy has full control of the position and if anything, O Brien has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Mccarthy seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down O Brien for as long as he can get away with.

Mccarthy could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

O Brien is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Mccarthy's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Mccarthy is stinking the place up with his stalling.

Mccarthy has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

This is a sustained period of stalling by Mccarthy.

O Brien is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

O Brien might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mccarthy haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
