Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cody Garza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Spikes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cody Garza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brandon Spikes!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Kavanagh and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Spikes moves into the clinch successfully.
Garza tries to break free but Spikes pushes him back against the cage.
Garza really is a fat lump.
Garza is trying to force a seperation but Spikes has the dominant position.
Garza is trying to break the clinch but Spikes is controlling him.
Spikes jumps guard but Garza stands there with Spikes around his waist. Spikes gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Spikes pulls guard.
Garza is looking to work some ground and pound but Spikes has wrist control.
Garza postures up in Spikes's guard and throws a big left but Spikes blocks it.
Garza chips away with some ground and pound.

Spikes looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Spikes is looking for a triangle but Garza pushes his legs off easily.
Garza throws a big right hand that misses.

Spikes is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Spikes wants to sweep but no luck.
Spikes is still trying to improve position.
Garza content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Spikes wants to control the position but Garza says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Spikes wants to get back to full guard.
Garza thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Garza prevents Spikes from improving his position.
Garza not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Spikes works his way to full guard. Good work.
Garza postures up.
Spikes is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Garza is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Spikes throws a body kick that misses
and Garza counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Spikes instigates a clinch.
Garza trying to control the position but instead, Spikes has worked for underhooks and has pushed Garza into the cage.

Spikes breaks from the clinch.
Spikes tries a head kick but it misses.

Spikes has taken the fight to the clinch.

Garza jumps guard and drags Spikes to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Spikes stands up and waves to Garza to follow him.

Spikes closes the distance and pushes Garza back into the cage.

Garza escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Spikes has a takedown stuffed.

Garza looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Spikes!

Spikes sneaks out the side door and pushes Garza away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Brandon Spikes will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Garza shoots for a double leg takedown but Spikes sprawls well. He's pushed Garza's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Garza gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Spikes to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Garza is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Spikes dives into side control.


Spikes working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Spikes has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Garza gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Garza wants to improve his position but Spikes is controlling well.

Spikes stands up out of the half guard.
Spikes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Garza avoids it really well and circles away.
Spikes lands a nice hook to Garza's body. Garza takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Horrible takedown attempt by Garza or perhaps it was just good defense by Spikes, which made it look bad.

Spikes clinches with his opponent.
Garza wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Knees in the clinch landing for Spikes.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Garza tries to break free but Spikes pushes him back against the cage.
Garza stops a takedown attempt from Spikes.
Spikes tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Cody Garza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brandon Spikes.
Garza is trying to push Spikes away but Spikes has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Spikes ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Spikes no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Spikes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Spikes wants to sweep here but Garza controlling him for the moment.

Spikes utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Spikes looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Garza passes into half guard.
Spikes is looking to improve his position.
Garza seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Garza takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Garza throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Spikes pushes Garza off looking to stand but Garza dives back in and keeps control.

Brandon Spikes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Spikes controlling the pace.
Garza is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Spikes scores with a couple of nice shots.


It looks like Cody Garza has been cut.
Spikes is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Spikes passes to full mount!
Garza tries to lock up and control but Spikes gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Garza might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Spikes moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Garza has worked his arm free - good work by Garza!

Spikes is staying tight to Garza's torso, preventing him from escaping.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Spikes is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Garza's shoulder. That is not cool.
Garza is not content to let Spikes control the position.

Cody Garza has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Brandon Spikes is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Spikes gets to mount! Garza was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Well Spikes has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
