PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vasily Kornilov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Charlie Alaniz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alaniz has chosen Beck - Loser as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Vasily Kornilov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 18 - 0, fighting out of London, Charlie Alaniz!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Glass and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slapping leg kick lands for Kornilov.
Kornilov scores with a decent looking hook.

Alaniz tries to keep at a distance but Kornilov has taken the fight into the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Kornilov.
Alaniz has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kornilov is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Kornilov stops a takedown attempt from Alaniz.
Alaniz tries to pull guard but Kornilov forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Vasily Kornilov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Charlie Alaniz.
Kornilov lands with a right to the head.
Kornilov scores with a nice hook to the head.
Alaniz has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Kornilov is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Alaniz is trying to pull guard but Kornilov turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Kornilov throws a head punch that misses.
Kornilov swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Kornilov misses with a shot to the kidneys.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Kornilov.

Alaniz breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Kornilov lands a nice leg kick that just misses Alaniz's sensitive parts.
A thudding body kick lands there by Alaniz!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kornilov clinches up against the cage.

Alaniz is trying to force a seperation but Kornilov has the dominant position.

Alaniz jumps guard but Kornilov turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Alaniz goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Alaniz told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight.
A nice left hand lands by Kornilov.
Alaniz wants to get back to striking at distance but Kornilov won't allow it.
Kornilov has Alaniz pressed against the cage, preventing Alaniz from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Alaniz decides to pull guard.

Alaniz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kornilov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Kornilov throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Kornilov is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alaniz looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kornilov is one step ahead there.
Kornilov is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Alaniz preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kornilov missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Alaniz working a defensive guard but Kornilov manages to pass into side control anyway.
Alaniz is looking for a sweep.
Kornilov trying to control the action but Alaniz is working from the bottom.
Kornilov postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alaniz prevents Kornilov from improving position.
Kornilov wants to control but Alaniz is keeping him busy.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kornilov working the body and head with strikes.
Kornilov is staying tight to Alaniz's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Alaniz is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kornilov off and has taken his back!

Kornilov has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Alaniz.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Alaniz is persistently looking for the submission but Kornilov is defending it well.
Kornilov is in bad spot here.

Alaniz gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Kornilov just trying to survive but Alaniz is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

Alaniz is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Kornilov has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Alaniz has the hooks in. Kornilov is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vasily Kornilov dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Kornilov, as that shot connected.
Horrible takedown attempt by Alaniz or perhaps it was just good defense by Kornilov, which made it look bad.
Kornilov connects with a looping right hand.
Kornilov keeps the fight on the outside.
Charlie Alaniz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Alaniz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kornilov, pushing him back against the cage.
Alaniz tries to pull guard but Kornilov holds him up against the cage and eventually Alaniz drops back down to his feet.
Kornilov has a couple of punches blocked by Alaniz.
Nice body punch from Alaniz.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alaniz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kornilov walks away with a smile on his face. Alaniz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Kornilov lands a jab to the nose.
Kornilov throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Alaniz is looking to clinch.
Alaniz avoids the head kick by Kornilov.
Alaniz wants to counter the offense by Kornilov and move into the clinch position.
Kornilov lands the left hand.
Alaniz shoots for a takedown but Kornilov saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Kornilov keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Alaniz walks into a straight right hand from Kornilov.
Kornilov lands with a nice body punch.
Kornilov scores with a nice strike.


Alaniz is rocked!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kornilov lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Alaniz up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs Kornilov from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Alaniz's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:06 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Vasily Kornilov!
Vasily Kornilov thanked the fans post fight for their support.
Charlie Alaniz was interviewed post fight and said 'congratulations, who will the next one to beat me?'.
