PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Teddy Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leo Martens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leo Martens will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Teddy Green!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leo Martens!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Seu Braga and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Green moves into the clinch.

Martens gets control of Green's arms and successfully pulls guard. Martens will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Martens wants to stand up but Green is controlling him.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Martens wants to sweep but no luck.
Green slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Martens darts in and clinches Green up against the cage.
Green wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Martens has him pressed against the cage.

Martens jumps into guard, dragging Green to the mat.

Martens is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Martens controls Green momentarily but Green frees himself.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Martens shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Green has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Martens has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Green stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Green changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Martens fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Green gets caught napping as Martens dives in and scores a takedown. Green manages to retain guard.

Green had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Martens defends it easily.
Martens is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Martens manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Martens lands a nice elbow.


It looks like Teddy Green has been cut.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Martens.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Leo Martens will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Martens got a little sloppy there for a moment and Green has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Martens has managed to get both his arms back between Green's legs - danger averted.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Martens accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Green will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Martens rushes Green and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Green has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Martens is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Green wants to break free but Martens has control.

Martens pulls guard effortlessly.

Martens is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Green engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Green wanted to stand there but Martens had control of the position.
Green is fighting to break Martens's control of his arms but Martens is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Martens avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Martens is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Green gets tackled into the cage by Martens. Martens maintains the clinch.
Martens gets underhooks to prevent Green's takedown attempt.

Green gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Martens pulls Green in close to his closed guard and prevents Green from doing any damage or advancing position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Martens has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Green can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Martens has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Green wants to control from the top but Martens keeps moving.
Martens is trying to keep Green in close.
Green is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Martens is breathing heavily.

Green swings for the body but Martens moves out of range.

Martens shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Martens was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Green tries to bench press Martens off him but Martens keeps the position.
Green is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Martens blocks the strikes from Green.

Leo Martens showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Green's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!



Martens shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Martens showed some decent athleticism there.
Green wants to improve his position but Martens is controlling well.
Green is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Martens's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Martens's back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Green has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Martens has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Green trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Martens doesn't escape.
Martens is trying to remain composed but Green is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.

Green is riding his opponent, not letting Martens buck him off.
Green has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Martens wants to control his opponent's hands but Green gets his hands free.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
I really don't envy Martens right now.
Leo Martens has got the better of the ground game so far.
Green controlling the position well here. Martens rolled but Green kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Green is hanging on to Martens's back as he tries to escape.
What can Martens do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Martens is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Green lands an elbow to the side of the head.
I would not like to be Martens right now.

Martens is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Green gets his way!
Martens covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Green is throwing strikes but Martens counters by rolling into a better position. After a scramble, Martens regains half guard.

Martens has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Green is working away from the top position though.
Green takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Martens is looking to control Green's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Martens avoid being mounted?
Martens is staying active underneath Green, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Still in half guard, Green seems content to control.
Green's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Martens tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Martens has closed the distance and engaged Green in a clinch.
Teddy Green has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Leo Martens is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Martens gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

I think Martens has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
