Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Berry Gonzales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Don Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Don Powers acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Berry Gonzales!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Don Powers!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paul Aken and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powers throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Gonzales was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Gonzales scores with a decent looking hook.
Powers connects with a leg kick. Gonzales looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Powers tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Gonzales really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Powers throws a leg kick but Gonzales sees it coming and moves out of range.
Powers misses with a leg kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gonzales.
Powers rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gonzales moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Powers doesn't manage to clinch there - Gonzales circles away.
Powers moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Gonzales closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Powers tries to get back to half guard but can't.

The ground and pound from Gonzales seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gonzales is looking to take a break and control but Powers is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Gonzales decides to take the fight back to the feet.
The fighters circle momentarily. Powers darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Powers tries to clinch but Gonzales moves out of range.
Powers tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gonzales swivels and escapes.
The fight stays on the outside here - Powers looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Powers scoring well with a low kick there.
Powers throws an overhand right that lands on Gonzales's shoulder, as Gonzales tries to avoid the shot.
Gonzales seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.

Gonzales drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Powers can't do much from the bottom here.

Gonzales controls the position.
Powers struggling a bit here.
Powers is trying to improve his position.
Powers being controlled for a moment.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Powers is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Gonzales off and has taken his back!

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Powers looking for the RNC.
Powers is not going to allow Gonzales to sit and survive in this position.
Powers keeps control of the position as Gonzales tries to break free.
Gonzales turns into Powers and is now in his guard.
Powers is adopting a defensive guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Powers looks winded!
Gonzales slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Don Powers will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Gonzales shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Powers defends it nicely.

Powers takes the fight into the clinch.
Gonzales tries to pull guard but Powers holds him up against the cage and eventually Gonzales drops back down to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gonzales jumps guard but Powers stands there with Gonzales around his waist. Gonzales gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Berry Gonzales. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Gonzales is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Gonzales keeps control of Powers as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Gonzales is trying to pull guard but Powers turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Powers drags the fight down to the ground.
Powers wants to sweep here but Gonzales controlling him for the moment.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Powers is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Gonzales postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Berry Gonzales overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Gonzales showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Powers is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Powers bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gonzales's guard.

Powers has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Gonzales is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Powers defends well.
Powers pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gonzales is keeping the position for now.
Powers lands a couple of digs.

Gonzales has his foot on Powers's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Powers works his way back into a safe position though.
Powers trying to control the position from guard on top but Gonzales is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gonzales manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Powers manages to get himself to full guard.

Gonzales trying to control but Powers is working from the bottom.
Powers is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Gonzales controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Powers wants to improve his position but instead Gonzales has moved into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Powers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


No luck for Gonzales with that takedown attempt.

Powers tries to keep at a distance but Gonzales has taken the fight into the clinch.

Powers is fighting off a takedown attempt but Gonzales is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Powers to the mat. Powers regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Powers is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Gonzales frees his head nicely. Oh but Powers has switched to an armbar! Gonzales is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

Don Powers was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
