Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alex De Nascimento (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Luther King Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). King Jr is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by MLK tribute. Martin Luther King Jr has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Martin Luther King Jr!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Michael Johnstone and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

King Jr fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. De Nascimento sprawls well initially but King Jr persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
King Jr is pressing down on De Nascimento's thigh, looking to free his foot. De Nascimento is holding on for now.
King Jr wants to lay and pray for a moment but De Nascimento keeps working.
De Nascimento wants to improve his position but King Jr is controlling well.
King Jr looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
De Nascimento trying to control from the bottom.
De Nascimento holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
King Jr trying to pass the guard but De Nascimento defending well.
King Jr frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King Jr is looking to work his way around to De Nascimento's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
De Nascimento is trying to escape the mount.

King Jr with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.

De Nascimento defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from King Jr.
King Jr wants to take De Nascimento's back but he can't do it this time.
King Jr keeps trying to improve his position.

King Jr looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
King Jr prevents De Nascimento from getting the reversal.

King Jr looking to secure an arm triangle but De Nascimento defends it well.
De Nascimento prevents King Jr from taking his back.

De Nascimento is controlling an arm, preventing King Jr from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
King Jr is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
De Nascimento is looking to get to half guard.

King Jr goes for an armbar but De Nascimento turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from De Nascimento.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King Jr bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in De Nascimento's guard.

De Nascimento will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
King Jr wants to pass the guard but De Nascimento is keeping the position.
De Nascimento is trying to keep King Jr in close.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
King Jr passes De Nascimento's left leg - he's now in half guard.
King Jr is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
De Nascimento could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
De Nascimento tries to lock up and control but King Jr gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
King Jr fails to take his opponent's back.
De Nascimento is in all sorts of trouble here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
De Nascimento stops King Jr from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

King Jr has hold of De Nascimento's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and De Nascimento manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
De Nascimento has given up his back.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

King Jr is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. De Nascimento defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin Luther King Jr dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Horrible takedown attempt by De Nascimento or perhaps it was just good defense by King Jr, which made it look bad.
King Jr changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
King Jr stuffs the takedown.
De Nascimento shoots and misses

and King Jr counters with a takedown into side control.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex De Nascimento. That's going to take a lot out of him.

King Jr working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
De Nascimento can't do much from the bottom here.

King Jr thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

King Jr has worked his way into a potential kimura here. De Nascimento is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. King Jr yanks on the arm and De Nascimento is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by King Jr.
