Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tremaine Van (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauricio Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Van comes to the ring accompanied by Drowning Pool - Bodies. Velasquez has chosen Awake and Alive - Skillet as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tremaine Van !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mauricio Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shigeki Fujiwara and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van cracks Velasquez with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Velasquez blocks a head kick by Van .
We've been told by Van 's head coaches at Bonsai Club MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Van tries to bum rush Velasquez with a series of wild strikes but Velasquez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Velasquez changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Van throws a leg kick

and Velasquez counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Velasquez trying to control the position from guard on top but Van is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Velasquez throwing strikes from guard but Van blocks nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Van keeping moving, preventing Velasquez from controlling successfully.
Velasquez missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Velasquez trying to control the position from guard on top but Van is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Velasquez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Velasquez forces his way into half guard.
Velasquez is looking to take a break and control but Van is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Velasquez is working for a kimura but Van is defending it quite comfortably.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Velasquez throwing shots but Van is blocking nicely.
Van knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Velasquez on the ground.
Velasquez is controlling the pace.
Van on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Van tries to get out of the position.

Velasquez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Velasquez is trying to control the action in half guard but Van is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Velasquez content to control rather than advance.
Velasquez is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Van is trying to control but can't.
Velasquez not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Van avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Velasquez.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Van misses with a head kick.
Velasquez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Velasquez scores with a takedown into Van 's guard.
Van can't keep his opponent in guard - Velasquez advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Van is breathing heavily.
Velasquez is looking to take a break and control but Van is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Van is looking for a sweep. Velasquez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mauricio Velasquez dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Velasquez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Van pinned against the ropes. Van gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Van throws a head kick but Velasquez moves out of range.
Velasquez doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Velasquez ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Van scoring well with a low kick there.
Velasquez throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Van .
Van throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Velasquez counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Van throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Velasquez.
Van tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fight stays on the outside here - Velasquez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Velasquez tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Van defends well and Velasquez ends up having to push Van into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
It looked like Van was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Tremaine Van has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mauricio Velasquez.
Velasquez goes for a double leg but Van avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the ropes as Van continues to drive forward.
Van stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Van connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Velasquez's hands.
Velasquez takes a swing at Van 's ribcage but misses.
Van cracks Velasquez with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the ropes.


Velasquez is rocked!
Van and Velasquez are patiently standing in front of each other looking for an opening. Van throws a head kick. It's landed, knocking Velasquez into next week! Ooooh that was huge! Van knows it - he's on the ropes flexing is biceps. That's a bit weird considering he won by kick but whatever.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Tremaine Van !
Tremaine Van looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'We knew we'd probably get the win if we could get the clinch against the cage; I think most people will crumble when I start kneeing them in the head! Bring on the next opponent!'.
