Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Rines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Thurmond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thurmond has chosen Black Skinhead as his entrance music. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ricardo Rines!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joe Thurmond!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thurmond swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Rines counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Thurmond uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Rines throws a chopping leg kick but Thurmond manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Thurmond shoots in and drives through. Rines sprawls well.
Thurmond throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Rines shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Thurmond manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rines scoring with some ground and pound.
Rines works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Rines keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Rines seems to be working for a kimura but Thurmond defends the submission attempt.
Rines has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Rines is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rines's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Thurmond looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Thurmond is looking to get back to is feet but Rines passes into side control.
Rines tries to advance to mount but Thurmond denies him.

Rines is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Thurmond has escaped the position, nice work there.

Rines stands up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rines throws a sloppy head kick and Thurmond moves out of range easily.
Rines tries to close the distance and clinch but Thurmond swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Rines dodges the punch combination from Thurmond.
Thurmond looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
As Thurmond tries to get set, Rines tries to push him back and clinch up but Thurmond manages to avoid the attempt.
Thurmond throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Rines counters with a single leg into guard. Thurmond didn't expect that.
Rines might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Thurmond is trying to keep Rines in close.
Thurmond looks winded!
Rines advances to half guard.
Rines takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Further stalling from Rines.

If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Rines is stinking the place up with his stalling.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rines seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Thurmond for as long as he can get away with.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Thurmond will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Thurmond will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Rines wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Rines tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Thurmond throws a combination that misses

and Rines counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Rines slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Rines missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricardo Rines dominated that round.
That's time! Rines's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Thurmond keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Rines doesn't manage to clinch there - Thurmond circles away.
Thurmond comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Rines takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


It looks like Ricardo Rines has been cut.
Thurmond falls off balance throwing a combination
and Rines makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Thurmond.
Rines drops down looking for a counter takedown but Thurmond sprawls and moves away.

Rines shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rines showed some decent athleticism there.
Thurmond pushes Rines off but Rines dives into side control.
Thurmond is breathing heavily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rines controls the position from side control.

Rines wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Thurmond, who protects the arm well.
Thurmond is letting Rines control him for a moment.
Rines working away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rines controls the position from side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Thurmond wants to control but Rines postures up.
Rines tries to move into full mount but can't pass Thurmond's legs.
Thurmond takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Thurmond throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Rines shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Thurmond is trying to defend but Rines finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Rines slows the pace down in half guard.
Rines continues to stall.
Rines tries to pass the half guard into mount. Thurmond knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Rines is figuring out what he wants to do next.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Thurmond is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Rines scores with a couple of nice shots.
Thurmond won't allow Rines to pass to mount.
Rines is taking a breather. Thurmond says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Thurmond avoids the head kick by Rines.
Rines is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Thurmond can do to turn this around?

Rines shoots in and gets a takedown into Thurmond's guard.
Thurmond is looking to stand back up but Rines counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Thurmond.

Rines working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Rines is working for a kimura but Thurmond is defending it quite comfortably.
Rines is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rines wants to work for an arm triangle but Thurmond is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Thurmond really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rines. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Rines lands a nice short elbow.
Rines thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Rines uses his free foot to push down on Thurmond's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Thurmond.
Thurmond takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Rines is landing with some decent strikes but Thurmond is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Rines sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Rines tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Thurmond is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Rines has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rines, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
