PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Danok Linus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Khalifa Khalidh (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Danok Linus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Khalifa Khalidh!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khalidh tries to close the distance and clinch up but Linus swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Linus throws a body shot but no joy.
Nice takedown defense from Linus. No joy for Khalidh on that attempt.

Linus closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Linus staying calm.
Linus's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Linus tries to advance to mount but can't.
Linus sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Khalidh is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

Khalidh tries to improve position but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Khalidh is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Khalidh is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Linus controls the position.
Linus has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Khalidh fails with an attempt to clinch.
Linus tries to counter with a takedown but Khalidh is quick to defend against it.
Khalidh will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Linus feinted with a counter takedown.
Khalidh lands with an uppercut that bounces Linus off the cage and back into range.
Khalidh tries to score a power double leg takedown but Linus sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Khalidh somewhat.
Linus swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Khalidh.

Khalidh is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Linus half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Linus misses the target.
Khalidh tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Linus manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Linus keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Danok Linus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Khalifa Khalidh.

Linus attempts a counter takedown but Khalidh avoids it well and moves away.

Linus throws a big counter combination but Khalidh scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Linus drops down looking for a counter takedown but Khalidh sprawls and moves away.
Khalidh closes the distance and lands a one-two.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Danok Linus dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Linus rushes Khalidh and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Linus decides to pull guard.
Linus looking to hit a scissor sweep but Khalidh is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Linus is working hard here to advance position.
Linus wants to stand up but Khalidh is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khalidh loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Linus seems keen to control Khalidh's posture.
Linus is looking to stand up but Khalidh isn't so interested in that idea.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Khalidh accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Linus looking for a sweep. Not yet Linus, not yet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Linus is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Khalidh can do to turn this around?
Khalidh tries to bum rush Linus with a series of wild strikes but Linus uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Linus appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Linus moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Khalifa Khalidh is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Linus throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Linus tries to land a front kick but Khalidh steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Linus drops his hands momentarily and Khalidh takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Linus is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Khalidh throws a right and a left that Linus avoids nicely.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Linus jumps guard but Khalidh stands there with Linus around his waist. Linus gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Khalidh is fighting off a takedown attempt but Linus is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Khalidh to the mat. Khalidh regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Khalidh wants to get back to his feet but Linus is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Linus wants to pass the guard but Khalidh is keeping the position.

Khalidh is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Linus is controlling him.
Linus passes Khalidh's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Khalidh tries to get to full guard but Linus has control of the leg.
Linus not doing much here.
Linus is looking to advance position but Khalidh won't allow it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Khalidh moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Khalidh is trying to keep Linus in close.
Linus seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Khalidh is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Khalidh wants to stand up but Linus has a hold of him and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Khalifa Khalidh will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Linus throws a series of punches but Khalidh moves out of range.

Khalidh shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Linus as he avoids it easily.
Khalidh shoots in looking for a takedown. Linus tries to sprawl out of it but Khalidh keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Linus manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Linus keeps the fight on the outside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Khalidh throws a right and a left that Linus avoids nicely.
Khalidh is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Khalidh misses with a right hand
and Linus counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Linus gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Khalidh has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Khalidh gets to his feet - Linus follows without any prompting.
Linus looks to land a left hand but Khalidh moved out of range nicely.
Khalidh wants to counter the offense by Linus and move into the clinch position.

Linus takes the fight into the clinch.

Linus manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Linus looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Khalidh wanted to stand there but Linus had control of the position.
Linus throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Linus holds on and takes a little breather.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Danok Linus is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Linus is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

And that's the end of the fight!
Danok Linus showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Linus has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
