PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nandor Nemeth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Jones's choice of entrance music: One Direction - History. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nandor Nemeth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Richard Clark and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Nemeth will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Jones takes the fight into the clinch.
Nemeth tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jones just stands there and leans against the cage.
Jones manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Jones manages to break the clinch.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Nemeth.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nandor Nemeth. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nemeth shoots in for a double leg but Jones sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Jones clinches up against the cage.

Nemeth ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Nemeth no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones trying to control but Nemeth is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones is looking to work some ground and pound but Nemeth has wrist control.

Nemeth is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jones is aware though and is defending well.

Jones got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nemeth has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jones has managed to get both his arms back between Nemeth's legs - danger averted.

Nemeth working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones scoring with some ground and pound.
Jones postures up in Nemeth's guard and throws a big left but Nemeth blocks it.

Nemeth has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jones can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Nemeth is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jones sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Jones throws a big right hand that misses.
Nemeth keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.

Nemeth is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jones is aware though and is defending well.
Jones passes Nemeth's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Jones controlling the action here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Nemeth looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Nemeth looking for submissions off his back.

Nemeth is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Jones pulls his head out easily.
Nemeth is breathing heavily.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Jones lands a nice short elbow.
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nemeth. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Nemeth wants to get back to full guard.
Nemeth makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Nemeth.

Nemeth is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Nemeth throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Jones escapes and throws Nemeth's legs to the side, diving into side control!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Jones decides to stand back up.
Jones throws a head kick that misses.

Jones clinches up with Nemeth and pushes him back against the cage.

Nemeth gets control of Jones's arms and successfully pulls guard. Nemeth will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Jones decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Jones scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


It looks like Nandor Nemeth has been cut.
Jones lets loose with a powerful body kick. Nemeth will feel that in the morning.
A right-left combo lands from Jones.


Nemeth is rocked!
Nemeth doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Jones counter with a right hand.
Oh Nemeth is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jones fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Nemeth, pushing him back against the cage.
Nemeth takes a knee to the side of the body.

Jones pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Jones gets a clinch.

Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Nandor Nemeth seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
BAM! Jones delivers a spinning backfist that drops Nemeth like a ragdoll! This is all oooooveeeer! He was out before he hit the ground!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Spinning Backfist). Jon Jones!
In his post fight interview, Jon Jones started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
