PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Omar Barry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Ruttenum (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barry clinches up against the cage.
Ruttenum has Barry pressed against the cage, preventing Barry from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Barry avoiding damage as Ruttenum throws knees to the body.
Barry utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.
Barry blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Ruttenum has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Barry is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Ruttenum jumps into guard, dragging Barry to the mat.
Barry prevents Ruttenum from getting back to his feet.
Ruttenum utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Barry controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Barry drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Barry jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Barry is standing up over Ruttenum. Ruttenum looks to escape but Barry dives into side control.
Ruttenum really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Barry. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barry fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Ruttenum explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Barry shoots in for a double leg but Ruttenum sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Barry blocks a head kick by Ruttenum.

Ruttenum throws a head kick that misses.
Ruttenum throws a predictable looking body shot
and Barry counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Ruttenum thinking.
Barry tries to clinch but Ruttenum moves out of range.
Ruttenum misses with a hook to the body
and Barry counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Barry moves into the clinch successfully.
Barry is looking to break free of the clinch but Ruttenum has double underhooks.
Ruttenum wants to break free but Barry has control.
Ruttenum takes a knee right on the jaw!

Barry's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ruttenum throws a jab when Barry was well out of range.

Barry clinches.
Barry is trying to force a seperation but Ruttenum has the dominant position.
Barry is trying to push Ruttenum away but Ruttenum has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Ruttenum manages to break the clinch.
Cain Ruttenum is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ruttenum punishes Barry's body with a nice straight punch.
Barry is breathing heavily.

A low kick from Ruttenum misses

and Barry counters with a takedown into side control.

Ruttenum throws Barry to one side and escapes!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ruttenum scores with a jab to the head.
Ruttenum throws a right and a left that Barry avoids nicely.
Ruttenum throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Barry.
Barry takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Ruttenum stuffs the takedown.
Barry takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Ruttenum punishes Barry's body with a nice straight punch.
Ruttenum drops Barry with a naaaaasty hook - Barry is in real trouble here! Ruttenum dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!

In his post fight interview, Cain Ruttenum started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
