Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Graig Buckner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Riu Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Riu Gracie has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Graig Buckner's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Graig Buckner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Riu Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Paulo Santos and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Buckner closes the distance and pushes Gracie back into the cage.
Buckner lands with a right to the head.

Buckner pulls Gracie into guard.
Gracie pushing down on Buckner's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Buckner is looking to escape.
Gracie keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Let's hope that Gracie has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Buckner really is a fat lump.
Gracie prevents Buckner from improving his position.
Gracie perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buckner might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Buckner really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...
Buckner tries to kick Gracie off but Gracie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Gracie wants to take a breather but Buckner is having none of it.

Gracie decides to stand up.
Buckner attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Gracie tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Buckner tries to clinch but Gracie moves out of range.

and Gracie decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Buckner's guard.
Buckner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gracie won't allow Buckner to get back to his feet.

Gracie is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
It looks like Gracie might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Buckner tries to kick Gracie off but Gracie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Gracie stops Buckner from getting back to his feet.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Gracie shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Buckner as he jumps to the side.
Buckner tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Gracie manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Gracie has a takedown stuffed.
Gracie closes the distance and clinches up with Buckner, looking for a takedown. Gracie pushes Buckner against the cage but Buckner circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Graig Buckner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Riu Gracie.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gracie looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Buckner is fending him off so far but Gracie persists. Nope, Buckner circles away and we're back to standing.

Buckner moves into range and clinches up with Gracie.
Buckner jumps guard but Gracie turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Gracie tries to score a body lock takedown but Buckner shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Gracie is working for takedown but Buckner is calmly controlling the position for now.
Buckner fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Buckner is looking for a takedown.
Buckner lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Buckner jumps guard but Gracie turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Graig Buckner will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Buckner pushes Gracie up against the cage in a clinch.
Gracie has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Buckner is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Buckner has picked Gracie up - he's going for a ride! Buckner dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Buckner is looking to stall here but Gracie recovers full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Buckner postures up in Gracie's guard and throws a big left but Gracie blocks it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gracie misses with a takedown attempt - Buckner sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Buckner stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Buckner wants it to stay on the feet.

Gracie is looking to stand back up but Buckner counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Gracie.

Buckner looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gracie with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Buckner wants to control but Gracie is keeping him busy.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


A looping hook to the body misses from Buckner. Gracie does a little dance to reset his feet.
Buckner tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Buckner gets control of Gracie's arms and successfully pulls guard. Buckner will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Buckner is not content to let Gracie control the position.

Gracie's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Buckner is desperately trying to improve his position but Gracie has a good base and remains in mount.

Gracie can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Buckner is looking to escape.

You get the feeling that Buckner really doesn't like being in this position too much.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Buckner tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Buckner is working hard here to advance position.
Gracie takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Gracie won't let Buckner get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Gracie stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Riu Gracie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Graig Buckner is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Gracie will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

And that's the end of the fight!
Riu Gracie comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Buckner has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
