PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Pettis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Neal Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pettis comes to the cage accompanied by One Call Away - Charlie Puth. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Pettis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Neal Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Pettis fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Diaz, pushing him back against the cage.
Pettis lands an elbow just above Diaz 's eye.


It looks like Neal Diaz has been cut.
The referee calls for Pettis to work.
Pettis throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Diaz blocks it with crossed arms.
Pettis lands a damaging elbow.

Pettis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Diaz circles away from the clinch attempt
and Diaz counters with a two punch combo.
Pettis looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Diaz moves in looking to clinch but Pettis pushes him off.
It looked like Pettis was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Diaz is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Pettis is looking for a counter combo.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pettis stuffs the takedown attempt from Diaz. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pettis as he jumps to the side.

Pettis closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Pettis just misses with a elbow thrown towards Diaz's brow.
A frustrated look appears on Diaz's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Pettis breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Diaz is looking to clinch.
Diaz tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Diaz lands a nice shot to the body.
Anthony Pettis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pettis dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Diaz. That did some damage!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Diaz scores with a one two! Pettis had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Pettis has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Diaz throws a wild body kick that Pettis sees coming a mile off.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Diaz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pettis avoids it really well and circles away.
Anthony Pettis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Neal Diaz.
Diaz looks winded!
Pettis misses with a few strikes there.
Diaz throws a counter combo.
Pettis throws a nice looking combination but Diaz bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Pettis throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Diaz stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. Pettis follows into mount!


That has opened up Neal Diaz's cut even more.
Pettis looking to control and managing it successfully.
Pettis lands a couple of good shots and Diaz has given up his back, trying to escape the position!


The cut above Neal Diaz's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Pettis is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Pettis is working for a rear naked choke. Diaz is not defending it well and Pettis has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Diaz refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Diaz's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Anthony Pettis!
Anthony Pettis tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
