Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Zlatan Arshavin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nikolay Nechvidov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Nikolay Nechvidov enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Zlatan Arshavin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nikolay Nechvidov!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Ivan Kurochkin and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nechvidov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Arshavin sprawls well. Arshavin wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Nechvidov gets slowly back to his feet.
Arshavin connects with a body shot that sends Nechvidov's belly button to the back.
Nechvidov displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Arshavin.

Nechvidov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Nechvidov showed some decent athleticism there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Arshavin tries to roll over but Nechvidov keeps him under control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nechvidov can do anything to dispel that myth.

Nechvidov is looking for a sweep. Arshavin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Arshavin slows the pace down in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Arshavin tries to counter by clinching up but Nechvidov breaks away and moves out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Arshavin.
Arshavin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nechvidov sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Arshavin somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zlatan Arshavin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Nechvidov closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Arshavin is not content to let Nechvidov control the position.

A close round but Nikolay Nechvidov will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


No luck with that takedown attempt from Arshavin.
Arshavin throws a right hand that Nechvidov ducks under and follows up with a left that Nechvidov also avoids with ease.
And Nechvidov tries to counter it with a takedown but Arshavin pushes his down on his head and steps out.
A swing and a miss from Arshavin.
Nechvidov throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Arshavin's waist but Arshavin gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Nechvidov off to one side.
Nechvidov closes the distance and clinches up with Arshavin, looking for a takedown. Nechvidov pushes Arshavin against the cage but Arshavin circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Arshavin connects with a high kick.
Arshavin shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nechvidov as he avoids it easily.

Nechvidov throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Arshavin was covering up waiting for the punch and Nechvidov finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Nechvidov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Zlatan Arshavin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nikolay Nechvidov.

Arshavin manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Nechvidov on his heels. He'll look to pass Nechvidov's guard now, I'm sure.

Nechvidov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Arshavin tries to avoid it but Nechvidov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Arshavin to the ground. Arshavin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Nechvidov stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Nechvidov wants it to stay on the feet.

Arshavin seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nechvidov is looking to control Arshavin's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Nechvidov avoid being mounted?

Nechvidov wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Nechvidov wants to control but Arshavin is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nechvidov fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zlatan Arshavin dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Nechvidov throws a nice looking combination but Arshavin bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Nechvidov slips a jab and a cross from Arshavin.
Arshavin will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

and Arshavin counters with a nice double leg into side control. Nechvidov won't be happy with that.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Nechvidov manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Nechvidov has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Arshavin is working away from the top position though.

so Nechvidov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Arshavin controls Nechvidov momentarily but Nechvidov frees himself.
Arshavin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Nechvidov is one step ahead there.
Arshavin striking off his back but it's not causing Nechvidov any problems.
Nechvidov slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Nechvidov won't allow Arshavin to sweep him here.

Arshavin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nechvidov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Nechvidov not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Nechvidov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Arshavin looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Arshavin is trying to control the position but Nechvidov postures up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nechvidov makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Arshavin seems keen to control Nechvidov's posture.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Zlatan Arshavin.
Well Arshavin has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
