PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Shmo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Shmo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Allen!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Allen displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Shmo.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Allen.
Allen throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Allen postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Allen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shmo keeps working.
Allen controls the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shmo is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Allen's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Allen seems to be working for a kimura but Shmo defends the submission attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shmo tries to roll over but Allen keeps him under control.
Allen is taking a breather. Shmo says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Allen scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Shmo tries to get to full guard but Allen has control of the leg.
Shmo tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Allen is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Shmo wants to improve his position but Allen is controlling well.
Shmo is looking to control Allen's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Shmo avoid being mounted?
Shmo is staying active underneath Allen, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Shmo moves into the clinch.
Shmo tries to break the clinch but Allen is controlling the position.

Allen jumps guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Allen working a defensive guard here.
Allen avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Shmo trying to control but Allen is working from the bottom.
Allen wants to sweep but no luck.
Shmo has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Shmo with a flurry of punches that miss.

Allen is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Shmo is aware though and is defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Allen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Shmo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Allen on the ground.
Shmo is staying active underneath Allen, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Shmo has hold of Allen's hands but Allen slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Shmo is in trouble now - Allen has advanced to mount!
Allen tries to control but Shmo wriggling away.
Allen avoids the attempt from Shmo to control.
Poor strikes thrown by Allen there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Allen thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
Shmo wants to control but Allen is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Allen dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Allen leaves Shmo with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Allen throws a series of punches but Shmo moves out of range.
It looked like Shmo was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Allen.

Shmo rushes Allen and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Allen successfully pulls guard.
Shmo looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Allen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shmo manages to get himself to full guard.

Mark Allen has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Allen preventing the sweep.
Shmo wants to stand up but Allen is controlling him.
Shmo trying to keep a closed guard but Allen is proving a slippery customer.

Shmo is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Allen trying to control but Shmo is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Shmo trying to keep a closed guard but Allen is proving a slippery customer.
Allen throws a big right hand that misses.
Allen wants to control from the top but Shmo keeps moving.

Allen is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Allen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Allen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shmo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Allen but Allen pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Allen wants to counter with a clinch but Shmo pushes him away.

Allen tries to keep at a distance but Shmo has taken the fight into the clinch.

Allen is trying to trip Shmo. He has hold of a leg but Shmo is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Allen persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Shmo trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Allen throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Allen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Allen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Allen sitting in guard here, content to control.

Shmo shoots for a takedown but Allen saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Allen clinches.

Allen manages to break the clinch.
Shmo shoots in looking for a takedown but Allen manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Shmo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Allen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Allen is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Allen closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Allen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Shmo has escaped the position, nice work there.

Allen is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Shmo is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Shmo is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Allen is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Shmo tries to lock up and control but Allen gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Allen controlling the position easily from mount.
Allen trying to control but Shmo is having none of it.

Allen is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Shmo has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Shmo really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Allen controlling the position easily from mount.
Allen thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Allen punishing his opponent with strikes.
Allen should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Allen putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Allen trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Allen content just to control the position here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shmo is looking to improve his position but Allen isn't that keen on the idea.

Shmo is just holding on here. Allen manages to take his back.
Shmo covering up well and avoiding damage.
Shmo covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
Allen struggling to land strikes to the head as Shmo covers up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Allen has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Shmo is in real trouble here. Allen gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Shmo is tapping out! Allen wins by rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mark Allen!
