PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Guadalupe Rivera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcu Sone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marcu Sone will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Guadalupe Rivera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Marcu Sone!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivera shoots in but Sone avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sone is looking for the big counter here.

Sone shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sone trying to control but Rivera is working from the bottom.
Rivera controls Sone momentarily but Sone frees himself.
Sone looking to pass the guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rivera wants to stand but Sone is controlling the position.
Sone slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Rivera manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Rivera stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Sone breaks the clinch.

Sone drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rivera keeping moving, preventing Sone from controlling successfully.
Rivera might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Sone prevents Rivera from getting back to his feet.

Rivera could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Sone stops Rivera from standing up.
Sone stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rivera swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sone scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Sone wants to control from the top but Rivera keeps moving.
Rivera looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sone pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rivera tries to counter with a takedown but Sone is quick to defend against it.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Rivera.

Sone gets a double leg takedown into Rivera's guard.

Rivera is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Sone presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Sone is looking for a triangle but Rivera pushes his legs off easily.
Sone looks winded!

Rivera not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sone is trying to hold Rivera in close to prevent damage but Rivera has managed to pass into half guard.
Rivera wants to stand but Sone has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Rivera keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Rivera moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Sone.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Marcu Sone will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Rivera decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Sone has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Rivera is on him like a limpet, forcing Sone back against the cage.
Sone wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Sone tightens his grip and picks Rivera up, before dumping him to the ground. Rivera manages to land in guard.
Rivera is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sone trying to control the position from guard on top but Rivera is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sone has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rivera is proving hard to escape from.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sone throws an elbow that misses. Rivera uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sone's guard. Nice move by Rivera!

Rivera lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Rivera decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Sone is breathing heavily.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sone.
Sone tries to stand but Rivera is controlling his head.
Rivera is pushing Sone's head away, looking to escape. Sone manages to hold on to the position though.

Rivera trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Sone with the ground and pound but Rivera regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Rivera slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Marcu Sone has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sone throws an elbow that misses. Rivera uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sone's guard. Nice move by Rivera!

Rivera is taking a breather. Sone says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Rivera drops an elbow to the side of Sone's head.
Rivera tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rivera in particular looking to stall.
Rivera looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Rivera seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Rivera tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Sone.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rivera is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Sone is looking for a sweep. Rivera is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Rivera closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sone did well to prevent Rivera getting side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Rivera decides to return to a standing position.

Rivera takes the fight into the clinch.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Rivera seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sone does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sone tries to bum rush Rivera with a series of wild strikes but Rivera uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Sone feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Rivera is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sone is controlling him.
Rivera tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Sone won't allow Rivera to get back to his feet.
Sone wants to get up but he can't break Rivera's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Sone has gone for a leg lock! Rivera slips out almost immediately though and dives into Sone's guard.

Rivera stands up and waves to Sone to follow him.

Rivera closes the distance and pushes Sone back into the cage.
Rivera tries to score a body lock takedown but Sone shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Come on Rivera - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Rivera ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Rivera no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Sone sitting in guard here, content to control.
Rivera keeping full guard, as Sone tries to pass.
Rivera seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Sone wants to control from the top but Rivera keeps moving.
