The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawk has his takedown stuffed

and Diaz counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Diaz.
Hawk tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Diaz just stands there and leans against the cage.
Diaz misses with a hook to the ribs.
Hawk wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Hawk's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Hawk throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Diaz's waist but Diaz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hawk off to one side.
Matthew Diaz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Heath Hawk.
A chopping leg kick lands by Hawk.
Hawk tries for a takedown but Diaz circles away easily

and Diaz counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hawk won't be happy with that.

Hawk sneaks out the side door and pushes Diaz away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Diaz gets a takedown into half guard.
Diaz is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Hawk tries to roll over but Diaz keeps him under control.
Hawk flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Diaz decides to return to a standing position.
Hawk lands a high kick!

It looks like Matthew Diaz has been cut.
Diaz tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Hawk counters with a body kick.

Diaz has closed the distance and engaged Hawk in a clinch.
Diaz is working for takedown but Hawk is calmly controlling the position for now.
Hawk is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Diaz to keep the fight standing.
Diaz doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Diaz has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hawk uses from the top position.

Diaz wants to stand and escape but Hawk is having none of it.

Hawk got a little sloppy there for a moment and Diaz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hawk has managed to get both his arms back between Diaz's legs - danger averted.

Diaz is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Hawk must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Hawk trying to control the position from guard on top but Diaz is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hawk is sitting in close to Diaz's body. Diaz has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Hawk is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Hawk is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Diaz.
