PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Teddy Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leon Bassi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Leon Bassi will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Teddy Green!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leon Bassi!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Luis Engracia and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bassi gets the takedown into side control.
Bassi trying to control the position but Green is working away.
Bassi tries to move into full mount but can't pass Green's legs.
Bassi wants to control for a moment but Green uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bassi seems to be looking for submissions.
Bassi wants to take a breather but Green is having none of it.
Green moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Bassi got a little sloppy there for a moment and Green has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bassi has managed to get both his arms back between Green's legs - danger averted.
Green will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Green is looking to sweep but instead, Bassi has passed into half guard.

Well, if Bassi is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Bassi goes for an armbar but Green turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Green.

Green keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Bassi's head.

Bassi is working an open guard so Green takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

A combination from Green does no damage.
Bassi lands with a nice body punch.
Bassi cracks Green with an open hand slap.
Bassi lunges at Green with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Green's hand.
Green on the wrong end of a nice jab.

Bassi closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Green to the mat! Green manages to get full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leon Bassi dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Bassi throws a body punch but Green moves out of range.
Bassi fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Bassi scores with a decent looking hook.

Bassi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Green tries to buck Bassi off but Bassi is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Green manages to get back to half guard.
Green tries to get to full guard but Bassi has control of the leg.
Bassi is looking to take a break and control but Green is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bassi wants to take a breather but Green is having none of it.

Bassi is nestled in close to Green, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Bassi is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Let's hope that Bassi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Green is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Bassi is controlling the pace.

Bassi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Bassi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Green wants to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bassi takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bassi wants to take a breather but Green is having none of it.
Bassi content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Bassi lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Green is looking to improve his position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Green is pressing down on Bassi's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Bassi scoring with some ground and pound.
Green doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Bassi connects with a couple of short punches.
Bassi slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Green seems a little lost for a moment, as Bassi dominates the positioning.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Green is looking for a sweep.
Bassi laying and praying for a moment but Green takes advantage and regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Leon Bassi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Green is rocked!
Bassi drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Green's head, knocking him out cold! Bassi is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:23 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Leon Bassi!
A very excited looking Leon Bassi made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
