The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Perez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Dawson is trying to trip Perez. He has hold of a leg but Perez is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Dawson persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Perez looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Dawson has picked Perez up and slammed him! Perez can't keep hold of the triangle and Dawson manages to pass to side control!
Dawson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Perez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Perez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Dawson, who protects the arm well.

Dawson is looking for a sweep. Perez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
