PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Yahweh Falwell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Falwell comes to the cage accompanied by Don't Stop Believing. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Falwell throws a lazy head kick
and Mendes counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Falwell thinking.
Falwell looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Falwell throws a head kick that misses
letting Mendes counter with a right hand.

Mendes feints and as Falwell raises his hands in defense, Mendes changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Mendes is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Mendes's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Mendes landing some decent shots from guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mendes is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Mendes scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

It looks like Mendes might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
More stalling from Mendes.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Mendes avoids the head kick by Falwell.
Falwell pulls out of a head kick attempt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Falwell enables Mendes to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Falwell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Mendes postures up and lands a big shot to Falwell's brow.

Oh Falwell is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Mendes loads up on a big left hand. Falwell felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Mendes looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Falwell can't hide his disappointment, as Mendes celebrates the victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jake Mendes!
After winning the bout, Jake Mendes thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
Yahweh Falwell was interviewed post fight and said 'Hasa diga eebowai. I guess I didn't pray hard enough, or maybe prayed too much. I bet if I rolled more instead of praying, I might have learned to defend submissions. I guess it's God's will. But to quote George Carlin: "If it's God's will and he's going to do what he wants to anyway, why'.
