Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Nick Faflatas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Trae Dean!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Peter Branson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dean throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
enabling Faflatas to counter with a crisp jab.
Faflatas shoots in for a takedown but Dean shows good takedown defense.
Dean fails with a takedown attempt.
Faflatas swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Faflatas.
Faflatas looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dean is fending him off so far but Faflatas persists. Nope, Dean circles away and we're back to standing.
Dean is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Faflatas. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dean drives through with a takedown into Faflatas's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Dean feints and as Faflatas raises his hands in defense, Dean changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dean stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Faflatas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Faflatas has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Dean has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Faflatas has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Dean uses from the top position.

Dean is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Faflatas wants to stand and escape but Dean is having none of it.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Dean is looking to pass into half guard but Faflatas pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Faflatas is in guard.


Dean has his foot on Faflatas's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Faflatas works his way back into a safe position though.

Dean tries to keep at a distance but Faflatas has taken the fight into the clinch.
Faflatas is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Dean is defending well.
Dean prevents the takedown attempt.
Dean stalling in the clinch but Faflatas improves position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dean can't find room to land a body shot as Faflatas controls the action.
Dean tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Faflatas avoids it.

Dean stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dean wants it to stay on the feet.
Dean looks for a takedown but Faflatas sprawls well.

Faflatas closes the distance and clinches.

Faflatas lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Dean or not.

Faflatas is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Dean dives into side control.

Faflatas is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dean can do to turn this around?
Faflatas trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Dean looks up at the clock and then as Faflatas takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Dean smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Dean goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Faflatas rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Dean's guard! Nice work there by Faflatas!

Faflatas gets to his feet. Dean looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Faflatas misses with a takedown attempt - Dean sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Faflatas has been working on his balance at Highland CT & Spar, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Dean.

Dean tries to clinch there but Faflatas circles away.

Dean's coach down at Highland CT & Spar was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Dean's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Dean has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Faflatas is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Dean yanks on the arm and Faflatas is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Dean.
