The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hug lands a big head kick that sends Uvol tumbling to the mat! Hug takes a step backwards and waves Uvol back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Paul Uvol has been cut.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Uvol has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Uvol manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hug on his heels. He'll look to pass Hug's guard now, I'm sure.
Uvol must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Uvol drops back looking for a leg! Hug is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hug manages to kick Uvol off! Uvol jumps back into Hug's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hug is looking to stand up but Uvol isn't so interested in that idea.
Uvol is fighting to break Hug's control of his arms but Hug is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Uvol gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hug to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Uvol is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Uvol stops Hug from getting back to his feet.
Uvol thows a huge punch but Hug dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Uvol wants to control but Hug is keeping him busy.

Uvol is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Hug has managed to free his arm - good work.

Hug has his hands clasped together around Uvol's back. He's all about the action.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Uvol connects with a nice short shot to Hug's temple.

Hug is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Uvol is looking to stall here but Hug recovers full guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Hug manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Hug manages to break the clinch.
Uvol shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hug as he avoids it easily.
As Uvol looks to move away, Hug throws a big counter combo but Uvol just gets out of the way.
Uvol fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Hug throws a series of punches but Uvol moves out of range.
Uvol shoots in and drives through. Hug sprawls well.
Hades Hug has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Uvol.
Uvol throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hug lands with a jab that stuns his opponent. Uvol is looking to close the distance but Hug sees it coming and throws a beautiful knee! Uvol crumbles to the mat and that's all she wrote! Let's hope Uvol is OK because that was naaaaaasty!

Hades Hug is the new heavyweight champion!
After the fight, Hades Hug was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
Paul Uvol was interviewed post fight and said 'All I can do at this point is go back to the gym & fix the holes in my game & come back stronger next time. Im here to entertain'.
