PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Myron Cardenas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fighty McFighterkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Myron Cardenas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fighty McFighterkin!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown attempt by McFighterkin or perhaps it was just good defense by Cardenas, which made it look bad.
Cardenas really is a fat lump.
McFighterkin shoots in and drives through. Cardenas sprawls well.
McFighterkin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Myron Cardenas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fighty McFighterkin.

McFighterkin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Cardenas really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cardenas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

McFighterkin throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Cardenas wants to get back to full guard.

McFighterkin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cardenas is just riding it out for now. McFighterkin eventually gives up the hold.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
McFighterkin seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cardenas defends well against a solid takedown attempt from McFighterkin.
McFighterkin throws a head kick that misses.
McFighterkin throws a wild body kick that Cardenas sees coming a mile off.
McFighterkin digs a good body shot into Cardenas's ribs.
Cardenas fails with the takedown.
McFighterkin tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
McFighterkin fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
McFighterkin looks winded!

McFighterkin dives in and grabs Cardenas's left leg, looking for a takedown. Cardenas pushes down on McFighterkin's head and hops out.
McFighterkin darts in trying to clinch
and Cardenas counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
McFighterkin has his takedown stuffed
letting Cardenas counter with a right hand.
Cardenas looks to land a left hand but McFighterkin moved out of range nicely.
McFighterkin only half commits to the counter leg kick.

Cardenas closes the distance and clinches.
Cardenas jumps guard but McFighterkin stands there with Cardenas around his waist. Cardenas gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
McFighterkin throws a punch but it's blocked by Cardenas.
McFighterkin is looking to take this one to the mat.

Cardenas lands a takedown into guard.
Cardenas preventing the sweep.
Cardenas content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
McFighterkin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
McFighterkin seems keen to control Cardenas's posture.
Cardenas wants to get up but he can't break McFighterkin's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
McFighterkin striking off his back but it's not causing Cardenas any problems.
Cardenas chips away with some ground and pound.
McFighterkin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cardenas is one step ahead there.

McFighterkin manages to escape and get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Cardenas clinches up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Myron Cardenas will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


McFighterkin has a takedown stuffed.
Cardenas seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
McFighterkin takes a kick to the side of the head.
Cardenas misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
McFighterkin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

McFighterkin is breathing heavily.

Cardenas throws a quick counter head kick but McFighterkin was just out of range.

McFighterkin throws a leg kick but Cardenas sees it coming and checks it nicely.

McFighterkin throws the kick towards the body but Cardenas avoids it.
Cardenas is looking to counter with head kicks.
Cardenas is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that McFighterkin can do to turn this around?

It appears Cardenas was looking to counter with a kick there.

McFighterkin takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
McFighterkin takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Cardenas has McFighterkin up against the cage in a clinch.
Cardenas is trying to drag McFighterkin to the mat but McFighterkin just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

McFighterkin gets caught flat footed, as Cardenas shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Cardenas wants to control from the top but McFighterkin keeps moving.

McFighterkin is working an open guard so Cardenas takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

McFighterkin tries to keep at a distance but Cardenas has taken the fight into the clinch.

Cardenas has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics McFighterkin uses from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cardenas is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

McFighterkin fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
McFighterkin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Cardenas is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. McFighterkin knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

McFighterkin is trying to control Cardenas's posture but Cardenas avoids it.

McFighterkin takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
McFighterkin is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Cardenas asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Cardenas throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
McFighterkin steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Cardenas.
McFighterkin moves in looking to clinch but Cardenas pushes him off.
McFighterkin tries to land a front kick but Cardenas steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
No luck with that takedown attempt from McFighterkin.

McFighterkin shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Cardenas defends it nicely.

Well Cardenas has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
