PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jethro Schmeling (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kemo Nozume (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Nozume's choice of entrance music: Pagan's Mind - Enigmatic Calling. Jethro Schmeling has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jethro Schmeling!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kemo Nozume!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yuuki Gou and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nozume slips a jab from Schmeling.
Nozume displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Schmeling.

Nozume shoots in and bounces Schmeling off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.
Nozume slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nozume throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Nozume controls from within his opponent's guard.
Nozume slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Nozume tries to advance to mount but Schmeling denies him.
Schmeling is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Miyagi Famiy Dojo that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Nozume advances to full mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Nozume with shots to the head and body - Schmeling looks very uncomfortable down there.
Nozume sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Schmeling tries to hold on but Nozume pushes him away.
Nozume landing shots from mount.
Schmeling wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Nozume.
Nozume looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Nozume has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Nozume lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Nozume controlling the pace for now.
Schmeling is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Nozume raining down shots from the mount!
Nozume controlling the position easily from mount.
Schmeling tries to hold on but Nozume pushes him away.
Nozume takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kemo Nozume dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Schmeling throws a body kick that misses.
Schmeling fails to land the takedown.

Nozume bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Nozume remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Schmeling on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Schmeling tries to get out of the position.
Nozume tries to score with some ground and pound. Schmeling controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
You can see the frustration on Schmeling's face as Nozume controls the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nozume is putting a hurting on Schmeling here, landing some big shots from side control.
Nozume happy to just control the position for now.
Kemo Nozume has got the better of the ground game so far.

Nozume misses with the ground and pound.
Schmeling tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nozume trying to control the position but Schmeling is working away.
Nozume misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Nozume has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Schmeling trying to remain calm as Nozume controls from the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Schmeling changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nozume tries to avoid it but Schmeling manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nozume to the ground. Nozume escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Schmeling or perhaps it was just good defense by Nozume, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jethro Schmeling. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nozume keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Schmeling gets caught flat footed, as Nozume shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Nozume's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Schmeling looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Nozume throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Schmeling works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Nozume advances position into side control!
Schmeling being controlled for a moment.
Nozume's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Nozume lands an elbow.
A lull in the action here.
Sloppy strikes there by Nozume.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kemo Nozume showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Schmeling works over Nozume's head and body with a nice combination.

Nozume decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Nozume controlling the action here.

Nozume is continuing to stall.

Nozume tries to pass the half guard into mount. Schmeling knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Nozume is still trying to improve position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nozume throws a jab when Schmeling was well out of range.

Nozume looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Nozume throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Kemo Nozume is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Nozume works his way into side control.
Nozume is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Schmeling is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Nozume content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Schmeling struggling a bit here.
Nozume is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Schmeling will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Jethro Schmeling has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nozume blocks a head kick by Schmeling.

Nozume shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Nozume was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Nozume content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kemo Nozume comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Nozume winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
