PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kelvin Burgess (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Voilier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Voilier's choice of entrance music: I came to play. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kelvin Burgess!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Simon Voilier!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Voilier shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Voilier was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Voilier lands some shots froms side control.

Voilier stands up.
Voilier misses with a head kick.
Voilier pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A little feinted left hand from Burgess on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Voilier shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Burgess is trying to defend but Voilier finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Burgess really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Voilier slips a nice elbow through Burgess's hands, connecting with Burgess's forehead.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Burgess looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Voilier trying to control the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Burgess looking for submissions off his back.
Burgess is trying to get back to full guard.
Well, if Voilier is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Voilier is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Burgess has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Voilier is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Burgess to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Voilier trying to control the position from guard on top but Burgess is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Burgess working for a triangle but Voilier defends it easily.

Burgess is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Voilier defends well.

Burgess pulls Voilier in close to prevent any damage.
Burgess wants to sweep but no luck.
Burgess is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Voilier not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Burgess escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Voilier gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Voilier tries to free his leg and advance position but Burgess is retaining full guard.
Burgess will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Voilier closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Burgess moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Burgess is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Voilier is aware though and is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Simon Voilier dominated that round.
That's time! Burgess's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Burgess tries to clinch up.

Voilier pushes Burgess up against the cage in a clinch.
Burgess misses with a body punch.
Burgess holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Voilier is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Voilier is leaning against Burgess and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Burgess pulls guard successfully.
Voilier is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Burgess working for a triangle but Voilier defends it easily.
Voilier trying to control but Burgess is working from the bottom.
Simon Voilier has got the better of the ground game so far.

Voilier avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Voilier controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Burgess trying to control the position.
Voilier scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Voilier is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Voilier got a little sloppy there for a moment and Burgess has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Voilier has managed to get both his arms back between Burgess's legs - danger averted.
Voilier must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Burgess looking for a guillotine here but Voilier defends easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Burgess is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Burgess being controlled here, momentarily.
Burgess is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Voilier is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Voilier tries a head kick but it misses.
Burgess appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Voilier drives through and clinches with Burgess against the cage.
Voilier tries a knee to the head but Burgess blocks it.

Burgess decides to pull guard.
Burgess trying to control the position.

Burgess has his foot on Voilier's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Voilier works his way back into a safe position though.
Voilier with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Voilier stands up and waves to Burgess to follow him.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Burgess gets cracked there but stands up to it.


Burgess is rocked!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Simon Voilier showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Voilier throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Burgess's waist but Burgess gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Voilier off to one side.
Burgess appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.


It looks like Kelvin Burgess has been cut.
Voilier connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Burgess tumbling to the canvas! Voilier pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Burgess was done - good stoppage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:12 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Simon Voilier!
Simon Voilier bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
