PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Luis Gonalez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doctor Blue (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luis Gonalez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Doctor Blue!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gonalez takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Blue connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Gonalez momentarily.
Doctor Blue seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Blue has Gonalez up against the cage in a clinch.
Gonalez lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Blue.

Gonalez jumps into guard, dragging Blue to the mat.
Gonalez manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Blue manages to get himself to full guard.

Gonalez not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Blue not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Blue is controlling Gonalez's posture.
Gonalez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Gonalez stands and steps away. Blue gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Blue leaves Gonalez with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Blue scores with a jab to the body.
Gonalez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Blue avoids it really well and circles away.
A thudding body kick lands there by Gonalez!
Gonalez has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Blue finds it's way round the side to connect with Gonalez's head.
Blue listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Gonalez gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Blue looks winded!

Gonalez on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
A jab from Blue does it's job there.
Gonalez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Blue but Blue pushes him off and we're back to square one.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luis Gonalez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gonalez.
Gonalez takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Blue throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Blue throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Gonalez goes for a takedown in the clinch but Blue prevents it.
Gonalez can't find room to land a body shot as Blue controls the action.
Gonalez blocks an uppercut.
Blue misses with a punch to the body.
Gonalez keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Blue's efforts to push away.

Blue has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Gonalez seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Blue can turn it around.

Gonalez pulls guard successfully.

Gonalez manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Blue misses with the combination.
Blue displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Gonalez.
Gonalez dives in and grabs Blue's left leg, looking for a takedown. Blue pushes down on Gonalez's head and hops out.
Blue unleashes a big counter combination but Gonalez bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Blue has managed to clinch.
Blue takes a knee to the side of the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Gonalez has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Blue uses from the top position.

Gonalez pushes Blue off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Gonalez fails with a takedown attempt.

Gonalez darts in and clinches Blue up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Doctor Blue will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Gonalez drives through with a takedown into guard.
Blue seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Blue can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gonalez controls the pace.
Gonalez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Blue for as long as he can get away with.
Gonalez postures up in Blue's guard and throws a big left but Blue blocks it.
Blue really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gonalez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gonalez is stalling in the full guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Blue is breathing heavily.

Gonalez is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Gonalez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Gonalez drives through and clinches with Blue against the cage.
Gonalez blocks an elbow strike.
Blue gets underhooks to prevent Gonalez's takedown attempt.
Blue is pressed up against the cage. Gonalez has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Blue down to the mat. Blue avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Gonalez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luis Gonalez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Blue misses with a wild combination.
Blue throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Gonalez shoots in but no luck this time.
Gonalez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Blue is fending him off so far but Gonalez persists. Nope, Blue circles away and we're back to standing.

Gonalez has Blue up against the cage in a clinch.

Gonalez has picked Blue up - he's going for a ride! Gonalez dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Blue scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Gonalez manages to mount him!
Blue wants to hold on but Gonalez pushes him away.

The referee warns Blue that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Gonalez has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Blue is forced to tap!
