The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes scoring well with a low kick there.

Mendes gets a double leg takedown into Castillo's guard.
Castillo is wriggling around but Mendes manages to pass to half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Mendes in particular looking to stall.

Mendes is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Mendes prevents Castillo from standing back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mendes working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Castillo is looking to get back to full guard here but Mendes has managed to pass to side control instead.

A lull in the action here as Mendes stalls from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mendes is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Castillo knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Castillo is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Mendes is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Castillo is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Mendes is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Castillo has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Mendes trying to control but Castillo is having none of it.

Castillo is looking to improve his position but Mendes isn't that keen on the idea.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mendes connects with a nice short shot to Castillo's temple.
Castillo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mendes on the ground.
Mendes is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Castillo manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Castillo gets caught napping as Mendes dives in and scores a takedown. Castillo manages to retain guard.

Mendes performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Mendes moves nicely into side control.
Mendes gets to mount! Castillo was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Mendes is standing up over Castillo. Castillo looks to escape but Mendes dives into side control.

Mendes is putting a hurting on Castillo here, landing some big shots from side control.

Mendes is working to tighten his grip on Castillo's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Castillo has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Mendes is really squeezing tight and eventually Castillo passes out! Mendes breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
