The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes lunges at Nascimento with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Nascimento's hand.
Rafael Mendes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mendes scores with a one two! Nascimento had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

It looks like Tulio Nascimento has been cut.
Mendes is looking to clinch but Nascimento is avoiding it.
Mendes tries to clinch but Nascimento is having none of it.

Mendes closes the distance and clinches.

Nascimento is looking for a kimura but Mendes is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Nascimento to get the leverage.
Nascimento is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Mendes reverses the position - he's now on top in Nascimento's guard.
Nascimento has a closed guard, preventing Mendes from standing up.
Mendes is breathing heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Nascimento working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mendes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mendes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Nascimento doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Nascimento seems keen to control Mendes's posture.
